Position Summary
Position Summary: The Student - Digital Media Arts (DMA) Lab Aide is responsible for providing support to the DMA Lab by performing a variety of computer-related and clerical duties, assisting the students and staff with educational software, and providing general information and assistance to students and staff. The DMA Lab Aide assists with managing DMA equipment, maintaining the DMA equipment room, and special events.
Essential Functions: As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class.
Position is open until filled with applications reviewed upon receipt and may close at any time.
Note: Cochise College requires a post offer, pre-employment background screening of all employees.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities: Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position:
Contacts security to open the lab if door is locked
Remains in the DMA lab, equipment room, and any such Liberal Arts room for security purposes
Assures lab, equipment room and any such Liberal Arts room is clean and organized
Performs basic trouble-shooting for Mac computers, DMA equipment, and any such Liberal Arts room
Manages sign-in procedures for users in DMA Lab and any such Liberal Arts room
Ensures proper computer etiquette and classroom atmosphere is maintained
Checks that all computers are turned off, equipment is put away and lab and equipment rooms are clean when leaving
Contacts security to lock the door for all facilities used during the Student's working hours
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor
General Expectations: Employees are expected to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, employees must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with students, faculty and staff, and the public. Employees will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.
Education and Experience; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education and Experience Requirements:
Enrollment at Cochise College with a minimum of 6 credits per semester and 3 credits in the summer
Possess and maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or higher
Successful completion of at least one college-level class using Mac computers
Students attending Cochise College on an F-1 Visa require full-time enrollment with a minimum of 12 credits per semester and six credits in the summer
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
Knowledge of current technologies on Mac computers
Knowledge of current equipment used in the DMA program
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner
Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail
Ability to work independently
Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work Environment:Work is primarily performed under general supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls.
Physical Requirements: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly, incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, or handle
Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem solving skills are important
