POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Software Developer II

Organizational Relationships: Reports to Software Development Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

General Function: Full life cycle development of software solutions that allow Whitefish Credit Union to provide the highest level of service to its members. Works collaboratively with Business/System Analysts, departmental staff and peers to create robust applications that streamline and extend WCU business processes. Responsible for coding, testing and troubleshooting applications, customizations, and integrations utilizing modern software development techniques.

Position Functions:

  • Perform all functions in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC): requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Assist in the definition, development, and documentation of software’s business requirements, objectives, deliverables, and specifications on a project-by-project basis in collaboration with internal users and departments.
  • Write reports for various business units utilizing core banking system, SQL, SSRS, and Excel.
  • Serve as technical support to staff for issues with developed software and report generation needs.
  • Create full-stack web applications that streamline and enhance our core banking system.
  • Maintain and extend the credit union’s automated processes.
  • Maintain documentation relating to programs or scripts for reference.
  • Work closely with Business Solutions Team on maintenance on core banking system platform.
  • May serve as a Team Lead to other Software Developers.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of how to automate processes with fault-tolerant, maintainable scripts.
  • Ability to create full-stack web applications and integrate the applications with existing banking systems.
  • Ability to keep track of code changes with version control software (Git).
  • Understanding of how to utilize APIs and their related technologies (REST, SOAP, GraphQL).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficient in querying and modifying a relational database using SQL.
  • Proficient with analyzing, converting, and merging data from disparate systems.
  • Familiarity with basic networking and general PC support.
  • Ability to be periodically available on an on-call basis to ensure availability of WCU systems. This includes the availability to support the 24/7 on-call staff as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing and over the phone with all internal and external stakeholders. Courtesy and tact are essential.
  • Ability and willingness to interact calmly and professionally with people from all backgrounds.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and organize day-to-day responsibilities with attention to detail and timeliness.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with others in an effective manner, listen well, share work-related information and be tolerant of others’ work styles.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office; ability and willingness to work with a variety of office equipment and software systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs., with or without accommodation.
  • Complete mandatory annual BSA training that includes Red Flag, Identity Theft, OFAC, CTR and SAR reporting and thresholds, as well as the safe keeping of member information, and passes any applicable tests.
  • Follow all Whitefish Credit Union, Montana and Federal information privacy guidelines.
  • Adhere to all Whitefish Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Protect Member and Whitefish Credit Union confidential information.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in related discipline required, or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of professional programming experience.
  • Experience building web applications with HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
  • Experience with the Git version control system.
  • Experience with relational databases, such as Microsoft SQL Server, Postgre SQL, or MySQL.
  • Preferred experience:
  • Core banking systems (e.g., Symitar).
  • Modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, Vue).
  • Back-end technologies (Golang, Python, Node.js or similar).
  • Reporting and BI tools (SSRS, Crystal Reports).
  • Containerization and deployment tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
