Job description

Position Definition: To participate as a Computer Technician of the information technology team as a resource for support and maintenance of computers within CLIU #21 and districts served.

Relationship: The Computer Technician shall be directly responsible to the Director of MIS and shall report on all matters concerning the assigned functions and other organizational business.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  •  Associate degree in Computer Science or equivalent related field or equivalent related professional experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years in support of PC workstations, software, and peripherals in a local and wide area network environment.
  • Experience working in an academic environment, preferred.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of Windows Operating Systems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of network-based applications software, including Microsoft office and Microsoft Applications.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Windows Policy Editor and Related Utilities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of IPX, TCP/IP, local and wide area networks, Windows, Apple, Linux, and Google OS.
  • Demonstrates a proficient understanding and utilization of Microsoft Office Suite and other software packages for use in the MIS Department.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain complete confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated by patience, understanding, and congeniality.

Functions/Duties/Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function/duty/responsibility at acceptable standards. In accordance with both state and/or federal law, reasonable accommodations will be considered upon employee request.

Essential:

  • Configures computers for connection to CLIU #21 Intranet and Internet Networks.
  • Configures, tests, and installs new computers, peripherals, and network components, as required.
  • Consults with users to determine necessary hardware, software, or system functional specifications.
  • Researches and develops technical documentation through online resources, how-to guides, and consulting with team members and end-users.
  • Troubleshoots network, computer, and peripheral problems.
  • Provides Help Desk support to district and public libraries served.
  • Provides remote and on-site software and hardware support to CLIU #21 personnel.
  • Deals with vendors on relevant software, peripheral, and workstation items.
  • Assists with preparation of relevant bid specifications and service contracts.
  • Maintains a working relationship with district Technology Coordinators.
  • Performs workstation problem determination and resolution.
  • Maintains all warranties and maintenance contracts associated with workstations, non-networked software, and peripherals.
  • Implements workstation and software security.
