Essential Duties
The Desktop Technician position is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on IT experience while working alongside professional IT staff and supporting technology across campus. Training and mentorship are provided, and previous professional IT experience is not required.
Responsibilities include:
  • Provide friendly and professional technical support to faculty, staff, and students through phone, email, remote, and in-person assistance.
  • Troubleshoot computer hardware, software, printers, mobile devices, and other technology.
  • Install, configure, and deploy computers, hardware, and software.
  • Assist with computer imaging, setup, refreshes, and equipment deployments.
  • Work with supervisors, other IT teams, and vendors to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Document work and customer interactions accurately in the department's ticketing system.
  • Communicate with customers regarding the status and resolution of their requests.
  • Follow established IT procedures, security practices, and equipment management processes.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties assigned.

Standard operating hours for this position are 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Student technicians are expected to schedule their work hours within this period around their class schedule. Occasional opportunities or requests to assist with events outside standard operating hours may occur.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be a currently enrolled student, registered for classes, and in good academic standing.
  • Must maintain a minimum of 2.0 GPA.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Dependable, professional, and willing to learn.
  • Ability to manage time and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions, ask questions when needed, and take initiative in solving problems.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous professional IT experience is not required. Applicants who have developed technical skills through coursework, employment, personal projects, certifications, or other hands-on experience may be more competitive.
Experience or familiarity with any of the following is helpful but not required:
  • Windows
  • macOS
  • Microsoft 365
  • Computer hardware and peripherals
  • Mobile devices
  • Audio/video and classroom technology
  • Active Directory or other account management systems
  • Computer imaging and deployment
  • Customer service
  • Computer programming or scripting

Physical Demands
  • Transport computers and other technology equipment across campus.
  • Lift and move computer equipment as required.
  • Work under desks or in other areas necessary to install and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Climb ladders to work with elevated or mounted technology.

Salary
Starting at $13 an hour
