Job Summary
We are an elite, multi-disciplinary team, bringing together the brightest minds from physics, computer science, electrical engineering, and mathematics to develop unique hardware validation, recovery, and security solutions for government and industrial customers. Battelle has been trusted by government clients to solve some of the world's hardest security problems. We work in small agile teams to push the bounds of computing technology.
As an Software/Hardware Engineer your work will be dedicated toward the development of Software Tools for Hardware Inspection and Validation. You will spend your day designing, coding, and testing software tools for inspection and validation of hardware (ASIC and FPGA). Our projects are non-standard, highly customized, and will push you to new levels as a software developer. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the software development life cycle with a focus on innovation and supporting cutting-edge R&D efforts.
This position will be based out of Battelle offices in Columbus, OH.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the Advanced Microsystem Soltuons team to improve reverse engineering and post-silicon validation capabilities, integrating hardware, software, and reverse engineering tasks.
  • Identifies and articulates strengths and weaknesses of solutions, conclusions and problem approaches during technical discussions.
  • Demonstrates awareness of deliverables and their role within the project plan. Identifies and executes steps necessary to complete less structured assignments with guidance from SMEs.
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders to prepare technical content tailored to the client's mission. Participates in technical discussions, demonstrating knowledge of the technology and adequately fielding questions which arise.
  • Contribute to Internal Research and Development (IRAD) studies.
  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical/electronic systems, components, equipment, and networks.
  • Determines design approaches and parameters. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests, and evaluates results

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field of study and (2) years of experience; Master's degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a relevant.
  • Proficiency in Python, C, C++, or C# (or similar general-purpose languages).
  • Experience with designing and testing digital logic circuits in Verilog (or similar hardware language)
  • Strong understanding of common data structures, algorithms, and their applications.
  • Ability to maintain software using Git (or other similar version control systems).
  • Ability to instantiate Virtual Machines/Environments for active development.
  • Experienced working in both Windows and Linux (RHEL & Ubuntu) environments.
  • Experience with software coding/debugging.
  • Demonstrates good organization, communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret security clearance.

Nice to Have
  • Master's degree with (2) or more years equivalent work experience in one of the following fields: Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics; or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Networkx, Klayout, Quartus, Vivado, CocoTB, PyVerilog.
  • Experience with GDSII layout representations of digital circuit primitives such as combinational logic cells, flip-flops, and latches.
  • Experience designing and supporting UI/UX for tools.
  • Experience using SAT solvers (such as Z3) to model and assess systems.
  • Active Top-Secret Clearance.
