Job Summary
The Systems Engineer 1 serves as an individual contributor in an Information Technology role, providing system implementation, support, monitoring, and maintenance of applications and services. The Systems Engineer must possess the ability to apply an interdisciplinary approach to ensure technical needs are translated into step-by-step processes, effectively producing efficient and effective results. A systems engineer will often collaborate with a project manager and the engineering team and take the lead to translate between the two to facilitate the achievement of a successful system being placed into operation. The Systems Engineer will also work throughout each stage of the given system or process, from design and development to validation and operation, including quantitative risk assessment, often focusing on performance, testing, scheduling, and costs. The Systems Engineer will be in near constant communication with other engineering staff, project managers, the Senior Systems Engineer, and other project or operational stakeholders. This staff member will carry out her/his duties by adhering to the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct, acting in the best interest of the organization, and fully supporting the mission, vision, and values of Augusta University.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
DAILY SYSTEMS OPERATIONS : Perform daily system operations tasks to verify system integrity and availability. This is to include monitoring applications and servers, and responding to alarms in a timely manner, preventing client impact and performance degradation.
PERFORMANCE TUNING : Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware/OS upgrades, and resource optimization.
TESTING ENVIRONMENTS : Deploy, set up, and maintain complex testing environments.
PROJECTS : Manage changes and project activities and communicate with impacted stakeholders.
PROVIDE SUPPORT : Provide Tier III and other support per service request.
OTHER : Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with two years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Windows Server, Active Directory support. Experience with Red Hat Linux. Experience with Office 365. Proficient in university and enterprise information technology and service delivery.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Experience dealing with vendors and contractors.
Understanding of change and configuration management principles.
Experience in maintaining large quantities of physical and virtual servers.
Understanding of Privileged Access Manager PAM solutions and associated tools.
Practical scripting experience in automating tasks and processes in multiple languages (bash, ksh, Python, Puppet, etc.)
Knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 6, 7, and 8; Red Hat Satellite Server, RHEL High Availability (Clustering); and RHEL authentication using SSSD.
