Job description

Position: Mechanical Engineer
Location: Birmingham, AL
Job Type: Onsite with Travel
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Department: North American Operations
Position Purpose: Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for working alongside other professionals to ensure deadlines are met, liaising with external stakeholders, attending meetings, using industry software to produce detailed designs, and ensuring all projects remain within budgetary and time constraints. Self-motivated mechanical engineer with proven experience in the automotive and conveyance markets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates the values and business principles of Leadec.
  • Works safely at all times.
  • Analyzing problems and coming up with designs to solve them.
  • Develop designs for tooling, test equipment and machinery related to both production and developmental products.
  • Support field crews in verifying final installation is per design and specifications.
  • Plans, conducts, technically directs, and evaluates projects or tasks, requiring coordination of the efforts of engineers and technical support staff.
  • Working within the budget to deliver safe and efficient products on time.
  • Works with vendors to produce tooling and associated hardware.
  • Integrates hardware into production & research/development cycles.
  • Work with customers and technical personnel to ensure requirements are met in production. Sets up prototype equipment and uses experimental materials to test theories/designs developed.
  • Discusses progress and interim findings at monthly technical review meetings. Continues with project in original concept, or modifies direction based on commentary and decision of technical review committee.
  • Performs specialized programming, design, or analysis of tasks under indirect supervision.
  • Follows detailed instructions as to working plans and methods.
  • Knowledgeable of applicable concepts, principles, and procedures in task area.
  • Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
  • Responsible for formulation of the opinions, decisions, and ultimate performance of the task specified in the statement of work contained in the task order.
  • Applies engineering experience to perform functions such as systems integration, configuration management, quality assurance, testing and analysis.
  • Must be capable of independently performing high-level assessment and review functions for problems called out in the individual delivery orders and shall be required to provide definitive written and oral results/recommendations for tests that have been conducted
  • Adhering to and supporting all EHS and Quality objectives, in accordance with ISO 14001, 45001 and 9001 respectively.
  • All other duties as assigned by Leadec manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of blueprint reading and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and associated tolerancing.

Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Resume of completed projects in the automotive and conveyance markets.
  • Experience integrating mechanical designs into production or test environments.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD Inventor, Catia, and MicroStation.
  • Relevant certifications, registrations, and licenses may be required.
  • Superb creativity, vision, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent math skills: ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems.
  • Firm grasp of engineering concepts, and experience designing mechanical systems and products.
  • Expect 50% travel
