Description

SAIC is seeking a Hardware Engineer with expertise in fiber optics for shipboard Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) systems. This program will be part of a transformative venture, driving the future of next generation afloat mission effectiveness through the integration of cutting-edge commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) systems and network technologies using fiber-optic infrastructure.  

Job Duties:

  • Work with a variety of engineering documents, including interface control documents, cable block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and fiber‑optic cable topology.
  • Support Stage 4 and Stage 5 test procedures for integrated C5ISR and COTS systems.
  • Ensure system accuracy and readiness through review, updates, and maintenance of engineering documentation.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering and two (2) years or more relevant experience hardware engineering (focused on fiber optics infrastructure); BS degree maybe offset with additional four (4) years relevant experience.
  • Experience installing, or maintaining fiber optic networks, including fiber optic cables, coaxial, cat 5/6 cables and fiber cable termination and splicing using appropriate tools.

Required Security Clearance:  

  • Must have an active secret clearance on first day of employment.  

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Fiber Optic Certification,(e.g., ETA Certified Fiber Optic Technician [CFOT], FOA Certification, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with COTS communication systems that leverage fiber optic infrastructure, such as:
    • Cisco routers and switches (e.g., Catalyst or Nexus models).
    • Juniper networking equipment.
    • Media converters for fiber-to-copper integration.
    • Network Interface Cards (NICs) supporting fiber.
    • Patch panels and optical splitter equipment.
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office suite and Autocad.
  • Experience with fiber optics test equipment (eg LED and Laser Light sources, power meters, optical time domain reflectometer, optical loss test set, optical video inspection system, and/or optical leak detector).
  • Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) IA Level II - Security+ certification, or CSSIP or equivalent or willing to obtain within 180 days of onboarding.
