Job description

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required preferably in graphics, art, computer graphics, illustration or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree with 3 minimum years of relevant experience.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an opening for an Advanced Graphics Specialist in Bloomington, MN.
Duties and Tasks:
  • Prepares technical illustrations, design procedures, graphics, photography, printing and digital delivery
  • Creates and implements original, new graphics designs and contributes to graphics projects
  • Ensures accurate representation of company logo and brand elements
  • Interprets guidance in customer proposal preparation instructions and configures tools for proposal teams
  • Supports proposals and ensures compliant graphics are created for proposals
  • Analyzes and evaluates a variety of factors such as visual interpretation, layout to increase understanding and clarity of message, graphic creation and editing tools, as well as an understanding of current business trends.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to senior leaders and teams of graphics staff creating and producing a major project at times using multiple media.
  • Develops graphics solutions to complex problems
  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends
  • Interacts with internal and external personnel at various levels on significant matters often requiring coordination between organizations
  • Participates and often presents at meetings with internal and external representatives
  • Works collaboratively with resources external to the functional or project team
  • Defines and communicates clear roles, responsibilities, and objectives for all team members
  • Assignments are defined in terms of activities and objectives
  • Interprets and follows policies, processes, and procedures for self and project teams
  • Will be part of a three-member team (Engineer, Writer, and illustrator)
  • Will work with Engineer and Technical Writer to develop branding that creates a highly polished, professional set of documents, briefings, and slides that help communicate value to stakeholders while improving the readability and adoption of the Architectures at a technical level.
  • Must possess expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator) and Microsoft PowerPoint. Familiarity with MagicDraw (Cameo) Models and other tools a plus.
  • Will be responsible for designing and modifying vector images and illustrations in accordance with the ASE Graphic Standards Guide.
  • Will ensure, along with the Technical Writer, that all documentation and key briefings are professional and of high quality. Activities include clean-up of grammar and formatting, one-voicing, and producing consistent, professional graphics.
  • Will create, maintain, modify volume graphics while maintaining a source material database/index.
  • As part of a documentation team, the Technical Illustrator (along with the Technical Writer) will:
    • Produce a style and standards guide, color palette, and branding guide that covers LaTeX, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint, and web-based documentation.
    • Create and deliver sample artwork of a series of no less than three graphics that explains the architectural Starter Kit to a Senior Leader-level audience (e.g., General Manager, General Officers).
    • Develop, update, maintain, and deliver version-controlled architectural Starter Kit text and graphical product standards.
    • Be responsible for maintaining visual style guides, PowerPoint templates, branding standards, and color palettes for supporting products.

  • Proficient knowledge of industry graphics practices, including technical illustrations, design procedures, graphics, photography, printing, and digital delivery
  • Proficient knowledge and skills using Adobe Creative Suite, SharePoint and Microsoft Office software
  • Requires knowledge and application of multi-media tools including web and video
  • Proficient knowledge of graphics and illustration software tools and general artistic concepts such as color matching, layout and formats.
  • General understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards of this area of expertise
  • Proficient knowledge of industry best practices
  • Work is performed under general supervision
  • Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives
  • Ability to represent organization as a principle contact on opportunities or projects
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with different elements of a business organization
