Definition and Class Characteristics INTERVIEWS FOR SELECTED CANDIDATES WILL BE HELD IN SEPTEMBER 2026 This position is remote and will assist with outreach and communications to East County (Truckee location) voters. It will be hosted in the Nevada County Elections Office and will report directly to the Registrar of Voters. Functions of Agency/Department: The Nevada County Elections Office exists to protect and promote one of our most fundamental rights, the right to vote.

We are dedicated to ensuring that every ballot is counted accurately, every voter has access to clear and reliable information, and every election is conducted with integrity, transparency, and professionalism. The Registrar of Voters is responsible for the planning, organization, and implementation of the Elections Office's public information. In addition, the Registrar of Voters provides the public and media with accurate information in a timely fashion.

Intern Duties and Responsibilities: Under general supervision, assist with a nonpartisan public information program for the Elections Office regarding the November 3, 2026 General Election. The intern will assist the Registrar of Voters in informing and engaging the East County public with information about how and where to vote, voter registration deadlines, vote-by-mail ballots, voter information, and more. The position may involve occasional evening and weekend hours.

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Creating social media posts/videos to educate youth about the election. Reviewing election materials and giving feedback based on how understandable they are to the public. Helping coordinate Registrar of Voter's talks with local schools; give feedback, attend events.

Working outreach booths, getting residents registered to vote or pass out voter outreach and education materials. Performing other related duties as assigned. Educational Requirements, Skills, Training, or Qualifications: This Internship is designed for any area of expertise, some areas that might be more pertinent could be students interested in language arts, photography, graphic design and video.

Must have a neat appearance, be detail-oriented, reliable with good written and oral communication skills. The County is a Microsoft Windows enterprise environment. Time Commitment: The intern would work approximately 2 hours per day (2-3 days) each week.

The intern would have a video Teams chat with an Election supervisor and the West County intern one day a week at a mutually agreeable time either Monday, Wednesday or Thursday, with the rest of the work to take place remotely or at mutually agreeable outreach events. A typical schedule would require the student to participate from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m

The overall internship is October, 2026 through December 3, 2026, excluding school breaks and holidays. Through participation in the program, interns will acquire hands-on knowledge and skills related to: Understanding how a California General Election works.

Principles and techniques of mass and targeted communication, public speaking, marketing, and journalism. Principles and practices of public administration and organization. Principles, techniques, and practices of journalism; expository writing and editing; preparation, composition, layout, graphic design, production, and dissemination of educational, informational, and promotional materials.

Principles of business and personal computer hardware and software applications. Principles of software applications for graphic design and video production. Principles of current social media platforms.

Principles of business English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Skill in strategizing, developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive media, public relations, and internal communications program. Skill in reading, understanding, and applying relevant County, State, and Federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, regulations, administrative orders, and other governing regulations.

Skill in working under pressure of deadlines and establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with elected officials, County employees, media, and other public groups and agencies. Skill in following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions. Skill in public speaking.

Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands. Skill in analyzing problems, identifying solutions, recommending and implementing methods, procedures, and techniques for resolutions. We are an equal-opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.
