Job description

Job Summary:
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is seeking a Digital Forensic Consultant responsible for conducting field-level digital forensics and providing consulting on technology matters related to criminal investigations. The role involves analyzing digital evidence, maintaining forensic equipment, and providing courtroom testimony as necessary.
Responsibilities:
• Providing analysis of forensically recovered digital evidence for criminal investigations;
• Procuring, maintaining, utilizing, and validating forensic digital imaging and forensic previewing hardware and software;
• Keeping all equipment up to date with the latest forensic software and firmware updates;
• Providing authoritative consulting on technology matters as related to criminal investigations conducted by FDLE and other law enforcement agencies as needed;
• Collecting, examining, preserving, documenting and analyzing Digital Evidence in criminal investigations by the FDLE or other law enforcement agencies as needed;
• Providing courtroom testimony related to this role as necessary;
• Authoring investigative reports and digital evidence reports to be used in case documentation and court proceedings;
• Assisting with the search and seizure of digital evidence on crime scenes, search warrants, and other criminal investigative activities;
• Conducting forensic field triage involving previewing and imaging of digital evidence stored on computer systems and other digital storage media outside of the FDLE Digital Evidence Labs.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Ability to testify in court regarding forensic techniques utilized, evidence management procedures, and data recovered
• Ability to plan, organize and coordinate multiple work assignments
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
• Ability to use strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Knowledge of and aptitude for working with computer systems, managing applications, computer networks and mobile device technologies
• Knowledge of network security and computer intrusion techniques
• Knowledge of current technologies, trends, and techniques
• Ability to understand and follow established policies, procedures, and industry best practices when conducting a mobile device or computer forensic examination
Preferred:
• Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position
