SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for all Engineering activities which include the day-to-day operations, automation, and efficiencies of the plant. Responsibilities also include conducting engineering assessments, cost estimates, design requirements, and execution of capital projects that will improve productivity while assuring highest levels of safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory compliance. In the absence of the Engineering Manager, the Principal Engineer/Automation Specialist will assume manager duties and responsibilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work closely with Plant Management to oversee and direct all process improvement and IT Automation activities in the plant.
• Develop strategies to increase plant efficiencies, reduce downtime, and evaluate effectiveness of preventive maintenance in running the plant at peak performance.
• Work closely with Plant Management on the development of project scope, process design, capital and expense estimates, contractor/vendor selection, equipment specifications and purchases, implementation timelines, and coordination of execution plans.
• Oversee the fabrication and manufacturing of equipment for production needs, product and process piping, sanitary equipment, steam lines, chemical lines, pneumatic lines, etc.
• Oversee plant projects, and provide support, guidance, and direction to the plant in new installations.
• Account for expenditures for each project.
• Documentation of all schematic and diagram changes to keep plant record current.
• Follow all safety and work rules.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
• Responsible for the standardization of control systems and control logic designs, documentation of operation procedures and as-built drawings and logic.
• Will be the plant liaison for new system start up and commissioning by all outside controls contractors and system integrators to ensure proper transfer of documented PLC program changes and adequate training on the installation/changes that have been completed.
• Member of the Food Safety Team and Food Quality Team.
• Support a company culture of continuous improvement by participating in efficiency and improvement efforts.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for overall Supervision of Principle Engineer and Plant Automation Specialist.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Process Controls knowledge.
• Strong Mechanical aptitude.
• Experience in preparing process designs and equipment specifications.
• Ability to prepare capital estimates for process upgrades, modifications to existing systems and installation/commissioning of new assets.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CAD, Project, and Visio.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering and two years of engineering experience in the food/dairy manufacturing industry OR at least 4 years of engineering experience in the food/dairy manufacturing industry.
• Solid experience in project management and manufacturing processes.
