Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Engineering Intern to join our Engineering team. In this role, you won't just be watching from the sidelines, you will play a critical part in shaping how we build aerospace hardware. Your primary focus will be capturing tribal knowledge, establishing robust and repeatable manufacturing processes, authoring high-quality Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and designing training materials to ensure our production team executes flawlessly.

This is an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a rigorous, AS9100-compliant, and ITAR-controlled environment, bridging the gap between theoretical engineering and shop-floor execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process Documentation amp; SOP Writing:

    • Observe, analyze, and document complex aerospace assembly, testing, and manufacturing sequences.

    • Draft, revise, and standardize highly visual and precise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and manufacturing routers.

    • Integrate quality control check-points, safety protocols (PPE), and critical-to-quality (CTQ) specifications into documentation.

  • Process Establishment amp; Optimization:

    • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Quality to map "as-is" processes and design optimized "to-be" workflows.

    • Assist in conducting time studies and bottleneck analyses to improve line efficiency.

    • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions into revised process documentation.

  • Training amp; Knowledge Transfer:

    • Translate technical engineering documents into easily digestible training aids, visual management tools, and one-point lessons for production technicians.

    • Develop training matrices to track technician certifications and skills.

    • Partner with shop floor leads to facilitate the rollout of new procedures and gather direct feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Compliance amp; Data Management:

    • Ensure all documentation complies with regulatory standards (e.g., AS9100).

    • Manage document control workflows, routing new and revised SOPs through the engineering sign-off and approval process.

    • ITAR amp; Export Compliance: Ensure all authored SOPs, work instructions, and manufacturing data strictly adhere to company export control policies. Safely handle, label, and store proprietary and ITAR-controlled technical data.

Qualifications amp; SkillsMust be a "U.S. Person" as defined by ITAR due to the nature of the work, compliance with federal contracts, and exposure to ITAR/EAR-regulated technical data.

Required Education amp; Skills:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelorโ€™s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline (Junior, Senior, or Graduate student preferred).

  • Exceptional technical writing skills with the ability to explain complex mechanical or electrical processes clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD amp;T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the confidence to collaborate effectively with both floor technicians and senior engineering staff.

Preferred / Plus:

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing concepts (5S, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen).

  • Prior experience with Technical Writing or Document Control software.

  • Experience using CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX) to extract visuals for documentation.

  • Basic understanding of AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems.
