Job description

Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting custom automation equipment, robotic systems, and manufacturing machinery from concept through installation. This position works closely with controls engineers, electrical technicians, project managers, manufacturing, and customers to deliver innovative, reliable, and cost-effective automation solutions.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and enjoys solving challenging manufacturing problems while working in a fast-paced project environment.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design custom automation equipment and robotic systems using 3D CAD software.
  • Develop complete machine layouts, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Design robotic cells, machine tending systems, conveyors, material handling systems, fixtures, end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), safety guarding, structural weldments.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up and mechanical calculations.
  • Review customer specifications and support project estimating.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with project managers.
  • Release manufacturing drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Support procurement, fabrication, assembly, debug, and machine runoff.
  • Participate in customer design reviews, FATs, SATs, installations, and commissioning.
  • Develop engineering standards and continuously improve design practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • 2-10+ years of machine design experience (entry-level candidates with strong internships considered).
  • Proficiency with Inventor, SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, bearings, gearboxes, servo applications, linear motion systems, and structural design.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with FANUC, ABB, or collaborative robots.
  • Experience designing EOAT, conveyors, fixtures, machine tending systems, and automation equipment.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, machine safety standards, PDM systems, and FEA or motion simulation.
