At Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), we are seeking a Linux Systems Developer who possesses a profound, under-the-hood understanding of Linux architecture. This position demands expert-level operational knowledge rather than peripheral familiarity. We require an engineer who views Linux as a core technical passion-demonstrated through advanced pursuits such as customizing system images, managing complex home server environments, and deeply exploring kernel operations.
This is a rigorous, highly hands-on role for a systems expert who thrives at the intersection of bare-metal hardware, enterprise-scale virtualization, robust cybersecurity, and cloud architecture. You will diagnose and debug complex issues across the full stack of a running Linux OS, supporting critical, highly available infrastructures in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Clearance & Location Requirements:

Key Responsibilities
What You Will Do:
  • System Architecture & Maintenance: Develop, customize, and maintain software applications and system images on Linux platforms. This requires deep knowledge of Linux internals, including the boot process, system initialization, kernel operations, bootloaders, and kernel modules.
  • Hyperconverged Cloud Infrastructure: Run, manage, and debug complex, enterprise-level hyperconverged ecosystem, ensuring high availability, performance, and seamless resource scaling.
  • Enterprise Virtualization Mastery: Implement and manage advanced virtualization technologies. This goes far beyond running a guest VM; you will architect, deploy, and troubleshoot large-scale, highly available bare-metal supporting vital enterprise infrastructure.
  • Network Design: Architect and maintain virtual and physical networking infrastructure, including TCP/IP, DNS, switching, routing, VLANs, and firewalls.
  • Deep-Dive Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex software and hardware issues across the enterprise infrastructure, demonstrating a firm grasp of systemic debugging.
  • Cybersecurity Integration: Ensure robust security measures and compliance frameworks are baked into all systems and applications.
  • Agile Collaboration: Translate complex technical approaches into clear block diagrams, written designs, and actionable steps for cross-functional project teams.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Who You Are (Required):
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in information technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in deep systems administration, engineering, or development.
  • Technical Foundation: Proven, high-level experience configuring and managing enterprise server operating systems and physical bare-metal server installations.
  • Agility: Demonstrated ability to pivot between multiple projects and adapt to shifting priorities in an agile environment.
  • Communication: Excellence in conveying technical details to both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Submarine Warfare Federated Tactical Systems (SWFTS)
  • No Travel for this position is required. - Ability to travel up to 0% of the time as needed

What Makes You Stand Out:
  • Familiarity with automation and scripting (Shell scripting, Python, Ansible).
  • Experience with advanced datacenter networking and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) architectures.
  • Enterprise-level system engineering/administration expertise.
  • Familiarity with DISA STIGs or other Risk Management Frameworks (RMF).
  • Encouraged Certifications: VMware, Red Hat, Cisco, and/or Security+ (or equivalent IAT Level II).
