Job description

Graduate Engineer I, Public Works - Fort Smith, AR
Halff has an immediate opening for a Graduate Civil Engineer in our Fort Smith, Arkansas office. This position will assist in related studies, design, and reviews for construction and mapping projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, drainage systems, floodplains, public and private infrastructure, pipelines, roadways, and systems for water supply and sewage treatment. You will work as part of a team under the mentorship of a Professional Engineers (PEs) who is eager to help you grow. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, critical thinker, and problem solver. Someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is ready to take on new challenges with excellent communication skills. Background in Public Works.
What you will do:
  • Collaborate with a talented design team on public works & land development projects.
  • Use design software and drawing tools to accurately render and communicate study results and designs; plans and designs other necessary and related systems and improvements.
  • Drafts reports and present plans to audiences with a wide range of backgrounds and technical knowledge, translating engineering and scientific information into easily digestible concepts.
  • Estimates materials, equipment, and labor needed to determine an estimate of probable construction costs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What you will need:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or ABET accredited equivalent Engineering degree.
  • 0 - 2 years of experience in Public Works projects.
  • Passed the FE exam or able to pass within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment involved in the construction or repair of civil engineering related improvements.
  • Able to balance multiple and frequently conflicting objectives and make good decisions.
  • Technical experience in computer-assisted design (CAD), AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other design, modeling, data recording, and analyzation related software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar productivity software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.
