We are hiring a Senior Manufacturing Product Engineer to help deliver on MDO's strategy to "Make it. Ship it. Love it." This role exists at the intersection of product design and factory execution. It leverages product knowledge, robust engineering methods, and continual improvement mindset to deliver on our operational objectives of cost, quality, and scale.

Responsibilities
In this role, you will take end-to-end ownership of product quality and manufacturing execution, quickly identifying and resolving issues while driving continuous improvements across the product lifecycle.
Product Expertise
  • Establish deep technical understanding of design, test, assembly, and operation of specific products.
  • Identify program-level manufacturing and refurbishment risks during NPI phase, develop mitigation strategies that enable scale.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Test peers to define, validate, and implement test methods that effectively gauge product quality.

Engineering Analysis
  • Drive fault isolation and failure analysis workstreams to determine causes through robust engineering and statistical methods.
  • Develop and validate corrective actions that meet product quality and operational objectives.
  • Set analysis expectations for partner debug and engineering capabilities, audit performance and drive accountability.
  • Collaborate with Data System/IT partners to implement data collection and analysis capabilities that enable quality control and continual improvement workstreams.

Functional Debug and Repair
  • Create and deliver product training to manufacturing partners to ensure rapid onboarding.
  • Develop tools and methods that enable debugging and recovery of deficient product.
  • Resolve technical and operational challenges that inhibit timely and cost-effective refurbishment.
  • Contribute to activities that refine Microsoft's global rework and repair strategy.

Continual Improvement
  • Monitor quality metrics related to test yield, customer returns, and device refurbishment and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and manage quality improvement plans across global manufacturing sites.
  • Lead cross-functional teams of SME across the development and manufacturing organizations to investigate, validate, and implement ongoing improvements.
  • Present quality improvement plans and status to Product and Operations Leadership.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Hardware Engineering or related field AND 5+ years experience in technical engineering, manufacturing, operations, hardware development
    • OR equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Hardware Engineering or related field AND 6+ years experience in technical engineering, manufacturing, operations, hardware development.
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Hardware Engineering or related field AND 8+ years experience in technical engineering, manufacturing, operations, hardware development.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in hardware product development and/or high-volume manufacturing environments, with exposure to factory operations, production ramps, or sustaining engineering
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical issues in time-critical or high-pressure situations, driving alignment across engineering, operations, and supply chain
  • Demonstrated strength in problem-solving, including the ability to quickly identify, prioritize, and resolve issues impacting product readiness, quality, and delivery timelines
  • Ability to operate independently in ambiguous environments with a strong bias for action, while continuously driving improvements in product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and cost

NPI Product Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
