Vogt is based in Louisville, KY and specializes in the design, manufacture and supply of equipment and solutions to the power generation industry. We are an industry leader in heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) with both domestic and international customers.
Position Summary
The Proposal Engineer is responsible for complete technical proposals and technical negotiations with customers resulting in a signed-off technical specification for new build capital contracts. Coordinates technical design activities and economic optimizations required for competitive technical proposals. Responsible for the preliminary design, engagement of subvendors, and cost summary for bought out components. Employs successful strategies and design approaches for equipment into proposals that ultimately lead to profitable orders. Develops new and existing accounts by meeting the customer's expectations in terms of supplying the customer with a quality product, competitive pricing, and timely support.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
• Develops and maintains a thorough working knowledge of company's thermal / mechanical design standards and philosophy, guidelines, work instructions, computer programs, and principles and details of application.
• Maintains the technical proposal files in a structured manner, in accordance with applicable standards and guidelines.
• Coordinates and proactively manages internal support from other departments and areas as required to support the Sales Department and maintain a good working relationship with other departments.
• Reviews customer technical specifications and establishes firm understanding of the customer's requirements through direct communications with the customer.
• Responsible for full preparation of the technical proposal. This responsibility includes exceptions/clarifications to customer specifications, preparation of technical strategies for Management approval, development of the General Arrangement drawings and P&IDs and coordinating with the Thermal Sales Engineers and other engineering departments as needed.
• Is responsible for emissions calculations, emissions guarantees, and other technical guarantees.
• Completes preliminary design, prepares inquiries, and evaluates bids for bought out components. Is accountable in coordination with and under supervision of the Proposal Engineering Group Lead for the cost estimate for bought out components.
• Attends proposal review and bid clarification meetings at customer's offices. Prepares and conducts technical presentations for customers as required. Effectively and independently negotiates the technical contract.
• Coordinates the transfer of design and specifications to the executing departments after a contract award.
• Shares responsibility for developing and expanding profitable, efficient customer relationships by providing accurate and timely support for customer needs.

Requirements
• BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
• One (1) year experience in the design of boilers or heat recovery systems and/or other power industry application.
• Must exhibit a broad understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics as they apply to the equipment manufactured or supplied by the company.
• Must be organized and be able to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines and be able to perform self-initiated and planned activities.
• Must have a valid passport and be able to travel when required.
• Must be willing and able to work overtime as required.

The base pay range for this Proposal Engineer role is $91,500 - $126,000 annually.
