Job Title:Substation Design Engineer-Physical Design
Status: Full-time/Exempt
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Work Schedule: M-F (flexible hours)
Compensation: $115,000-140,000
This pay range encompasses multiple levels of the role. Career level and compensation depends on applicants credentials.

Overview:
Responsible for engineering physical design and technical support for projects relating to new and existing Bulk, Distribution, and Customer Substations (typically involving voltages up to 138kV).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May oversee project teams and guide junior engineers and technicians.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Primarily develop detailed engineering drawings covering site planning, foundations, steel, conduit, grounding, equipment arrangements, and BOMs for new and upgraded substations.
  • Occasionally provide drawings including one lines, panel layouts, schematics, wiring, and interconnection diagrams for new and existing substations based on scope requirements.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with ANSI, IEEE, NESC, NEC, and other industry standards while optimizing system performance.
  • Conduct site assessments and evaluations of existing equipment for the construction and maintenance of substation.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of engineering drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Coordinate with client, project managers, P&C and civil engineers, contractors, and drafters to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Provide technical support during construction.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within established budgetary constraints.

The person in this role will uphold the culture of Utilitra, including relationship building with customers as well as general behavior on Utilitra or client premises or at Utilitra-sponsored events.
Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the electric engineering or utility industry.
  • Strong knowledge of physical substation engineering design principles and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and methodologies.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Licensed Engineer Intern (EI) working towards PE licensure.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)
  • Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Ability to complete grounding study and/or resistivity testing

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work in various outdoor environments and weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and survey sites for extended periods.
  • Capable of carrying and operating testing and survey equipment.

Travel Requirements:
Travel up to 5% of the time to various project sites, with occasional overnight stays required.
