Job Description

What is the opportunity?

We are building a world-class DevOps platform for QTS and Capital Markets at RBC. As a Technical Lead, you will drive the strategy and execution of this platform, enabling application teams to ship faster, safer, and smarter.

You'll lead a team of DevOps developers, set the technical direction, and be a hands-on practitioner who models the behaviors you expect from others - including the effective use of AI tooling in day-to-day engineering work.

This role is for someone obsessed with automation and efficiency, unafraid to fail fast, and motivated by enabling others as much as by building great systems themselves.

What will you do?

Lead the team

  • Manage and grow a team of DevOps engineers: 1:1s, career development, hiring
  • Unblock team members on technical, organizational, and HR matters
  • Drive a culture of knowledge sharing, ownership, and continuous improvement
  • Champion AI enablement - model effective AI-assisted workflows and coach the team to adopt them

Drive platform delivery

  • Architect, implement, and ship DevOps platform capabilities for QTS and across Capital Markets
  • Set and enforce standards for code quality, documentation, testing, and release
  • Conduct code reviews and architecture reviews -
  • Demo and promote platform capabilities to stakeholder teams

Contribute to broader initiatives

  • InnerSource and Developer Experience programs
  • Agile Community of Practice
  • Co-op / new-grad program participation
  • Interviews for neighbouring teams

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with relevant tech stacks (Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, or similar)
  • 3+ years leading a software or DevOps engineering team in an agile environment
  • Proven experience delivering production-grade systems with strong SDLC discipline
  • Experience building or modernizing distributed systems at scale
  • Strong proficiency with GitHub Actions and GitOps practices and workflows
  • Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes
  • Strong communication, analytical thinking, and sense of ownership
  • Demonstrated AI practitioner: actively uses AI tooling (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) in your own workflow and has driven adoption/enablement within teams you've led

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with additional CI/CD tooling: GitLab, Jenkins, Ansible Automation Platform
  • Experience with Snowflake for data platform integration and operations
  • Elasticsearch and Kibana
  • Public cloud: AWS, Azure, or GCP

What's in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits, competitive compensation, commissions, and stock where applicable

  • Ability to make a difference and lasting impact
  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team
  • A world-class training program in financial services
  • Flexible work/life balance options
  • Opportunities to do challenging work
  • Opportunities to take on progressively greater accountabilities
