Reporting to the Technology Support Supervisor, the Technology Solutions Engineer Co-op will provide expertise and ongoing technical support to assist the support team and customers on the use and operation of Caterpillar Mining and Construction software and hardware technologies.
As a Technology Solutions Engineering Co-op you will be advising other technical experts and have a key role in making decisions and providing support, both for office and onboard systems. Using a combination of expertise and coordination with Finning and Caterpillar, the successful candidate will provide troubleshooting of the software and hardware for Cat Technologies including Fleet, Terrain, Site Aware, DSS, and Trimble Heavy Civil technologies that is currently used at the customers mining and construction operations.
This role will be primarily based out of Fort McMurray. Candidates can be based in Edmonton; however, this role requires approximately 50% travel to Fort McMurray.Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer and internal Technical Support for Caterpillar and Finning technology suite of products (i.e. MineStar, Trimble, CUBIQ)

  • Reports back on product failure trends and serviceability issues

  • Support continuous improvement project work as required

  • Review and support in creating and managing technical documents

  • Inventory and tooling management - maintain and track all Caterpillar technology inventory and tooling located in the lab room or stored at respective branches

  • Manage projects with customer to deliver upgrades, calibrations, and troubleshooting

  • Identify and troubleshoot product issues and take appropriate actions to repair and resolve issues in a cost-effective way, to minimize customer downtime

Qualifications

  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record

  • Experienced with various office programs Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Post secondary education in Mining, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field would be considered an asset

Additional Skills

  • Experience in Mining Operations or Heavy Civil Construction is an asset

  • Knowledgeable in GPS/GNSS systems

  • Experience with computer networking

  • Experience with or knowledge in database management systems

  • Mine Planning knowledge/experience

  • Knowledge in major fleet management systems including MineStar/Wenco/Modular is an asset

  • Civil CAD, Vulcan, Deswik or other Mine Engineering software experience
