Database Administrator
Location Hoboken, NJ
 

SUMMARY
Database Administrator is responsible for maintaining, configuring, and performance tuning database systems. The current platforms that need to be supported are MS SQL Server 2019 and 2022, as well as Oracle 19c. The primary duties include correcting issues in real time, ensuring performance, availability, security, monitoring the health of all internally hosted database server supported by the IT Production Support area.

JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Monitors daily processing, research exceptions and request items
  2. Monitors database performance and performs database tuning
  3. Establishes and monitors database backup, recovery, and replication processes
  4. Participates in disaster recovery testing for databases in conjunction with the Business Continuity Team
  5. Establishes database access controls under the supervision of the Security Administrator
  6. Designs and creates databases for applications developed by the bank implementing bank standards
  7. Performs data masking of production data prior to restoring data in lower development, test environments
  8. Designs and writes stored procedures in SQL
  9. Review and deploy (database objects) to various environments ensuring bank defined database best practices are adhered to.
  10. Adheres to bank policy regarding change management
  11. Be part of the L2 production support team supporting internal and vendor applications.
  12. Be able to analyze a situation, communicate the issue to clients and management in a clear and concise manner.
  13. Installs, upgrades, and patches both MS SQL Server and Oracle databases with ASM running on Linux (weekend maintenance activities)
  14. Working knowledge in database systems architecture, including networking, security, scaling, and fault-tolerance.
  15. Working knowledge of database internals such as locking, wait events, consistency, logging, recovery.
  16. Enhances knowledge and understanding of job responsibilities through continuous communication and on the job training. Training should focus on establishing high quality/accuracy of work.
  17. Participate in the on-call rotation of the Production Support group
  18. Provides high quality work by ensuring accuracy and seeking to continuously improve our processes and platforms by embracing new and better ways of doing things.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  2. 5+ years of DBA experience on Windows for Microsoft SQL and Linux with Oracle experience.
  3. Ability to work with Windows, UNIX, and Linux operating systems
  4. Knowledge of SQL, Transact SQL, PL-SQL
  5. Knowledge of PowerShell or other scripting languages
  6. Experience with version control system
  7. Experience with replication services such as SQL always-on, Doubletake, and AWS DRS is a plus
  8. Working knowledge of MS SQL Server native auditing
  9. Experience with database monitoring tools - Solarwinds DPA, or Idera Diagnostic Manager a plus
  10. Experience with DataMasker tool for masking databases is a plus
  11. Excellent problem analysis and resolution skills.
  12. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  13. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  14. Ability to work independently in a decentralized environment, without the reliance of direct authority.
  15. Proven maturity, reliability, composure, and stability under pressure.
  16. Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills; Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple, competing responsibilities
  17. Experience working directly with internal and/or external customers in database software development, release deployment, and support.
