Description
The PT DBA Support Specialist (Ellucian Banner) is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day monitoring, maintenance, and technical support of our institution's Ellucian Banner ERP database environment. Working closely with Senior DBAs and the enterprise applications team, this role assists in ensuring the high availability, security, and optimal performance of Oracle databases supporting Banner Student, Finance, HR, and Financial Aid modules. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who understands the unique database architecture of higher education ERP systems.
Position Duties
  • Assist with daily health checks of Oracle databases supporting Ellucian Banner, monitoring for alerts, tablespace limits, and blocked sessions.
  • Support troubleshooting Banner Job Submission (JOBSUB) issues, concurrent processing errors, and database connectivity problems for end-users and functional teams.
  • Assist with managing Oracle database users, schemas, and Banner-specific security roles/permissions in accordance with institutional compliance and FERPA guidelines.
  • Collaborate with senior DBAs in cloning and refreshing non-production Banner environments (Test, Development, Stage) from the Production database.
  • Assist with supporting the deployment of Ellucian Banner releases, regulatory updates, and Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPUs) under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Assist with monitoring and verifying daily Oracle RMAN backups and export/import jobs to ensure robust disaster recovery readiness.
  • Maintain precise documentation for Banner database configurations, upgrade logs, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 1-3 years of experience in an IT support, junior DBA, or application support role, ideally within a higher education environment.
  • Prior experience working with Ellucian Banner or similar higher education ERP databases is a significant advantage.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of Oracle Database (19c/21c) administration, architecture, and memory structures.
  • Proficiency in writing and debugging SQL and PL/SQL scripts to support data fixes or routine reporting.
  • Familiarity with the Ellucian Banner database schema, Banner Admin Commons, and Page Builder is highly preferred.
  • Experience navigating Linux/Unix server environments (Red Hat/Oracle Linux) using command-line tools and basic shell scripting.
  • Basic understanding of Oracle WebLogic Server or Tomcat as it relates to Banner application deployment is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting ERP system bottlenecks.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across both technical IT teams and non-technical university departments.
  • High attention to detail, especially regarding data privacy and security in a higher education setting.
