Job Summary:
The CAD Drafter will be responsible for the design and development of parts, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks PDM. Utilizing feedback from the rest of the engineering team, they will be creating, revising, and maintaining detailed 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings for a variety of custom and standard products. This role works closely with the Engineering Lead, Manufacturing Engineer, other drafter, and quality control to translate concepts, prototypes, and existing products into manufacturable designs that meet both aesthetic and functional standards in a lean manufacturing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- · Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure SolidWorks assemblies, models, and drawings are accurate, complete, and manufacturable.
· Create and update 2D/3D CAD models, drawings, and drawing packages with dimensions, tolerances, production notes, materials, and finishes.
· Maintain organized digital records and filing systems for CAD drawings and revisions using PDM tools.
· Communicate effectively with managers, coworkers, vendors, and the fabrication team to ensure production drawings support manufacturing processes.
· Assist in creating fixtures and tooling for production and quality control, including the use of our onsite 3D printers, lasers, mills, and full machine shop.
· Support BOM creation, updates, and analysis in coordination with engineering and production teams.
· Participate in design reviews, prototyping, and testing, incorporating feedback into design improvements with design for manufacturing (DFM) mindset.
· Contribute to lean manufacturing initiatives through process documentation and component optimization.
· Contribute to a positive workplace culture through respectful communication, teamwork, adaptability, and a willingness to support colleagues and continuous improvement initiatives
· Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications:
- · Certified Solidworks Professional (CSWP) or demonstrated advanced Solidworks skillset
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
· Minimum of 1 year of experience in mechanical or manufacturing drafting (sheet metal experience and metal tubing preferred).
· 3+ years’ experience using SolidWorks with proficiency in Assembly, part, drawing and file creation and management.
· Experience using SolidWorks PDM, Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Outlook.
· The ability to define problems, creatively solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and collaborate with others proactively in a friendly environment.
· Should have the ability to use metrology tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, surface gauges, etc.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
· Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, or welded assemblies is a plus.
· Experience with costing tools and manufacturing methods is a plus.
