Job description

The Computer Network Architect is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of secure enterprise network infrastructure supporting 66 ABG/SC and its customer community. The role provides advanced technical expertise for routing, switching, network security, Cisco ISE, and voice-enabled network environments while supporting high availability, performance, and compliance with DoD, Air Force, and DISA standards.

  • Design, manage, implement, and troubleshoot network solutions in accordance with Air Force enterprise standards supporting 66 ABG/SC and its customers under Core Services.
  • Assist with life-cycle planning for network environments and develop/review procedures for capacity planning, performance, reliability, and security.
  • Manage and maintain a converged Gigabit Ethernet network infrastructure.
  • Design, install, configure, and troubleshoot network infrastructure and provide customer support for network services, including Voice.
  • Perform daily operational tasks and upgrade projects involving remedy tickets, routers, switches, IP address management, network management tools, and integration of new networks into the existing architecture.
  • Provide engineering support for classified, unclassified, and other enclave networks.
  • Support network compliance with applicable DoD, Air Force, and DISA directives, publications, guidelines, STIGs, and Task Orders.
  • Participate in system maintenance, optimization, and performance activities.
  • Interface with vendors for warranty claims, hardware/software upgrades, and technology updates.
  • Diagnose data troubles, open and route trouble tickets, and coordinate Tier 3 support with third-party subject matter experts.
  • Research technical issues and develop solutions with strong attention to detail.
  • Support emergency operations as needed, including 24/7 operational needs within contract parameters.
  • DoD Secret clearance required.
  • B.S. degree in IT with a concentration in Networking or Computer Science plus a minimum of 10 years of senior Network Engineer experience; an additional 4 years of network experience may substitute for the degree.
  • CompTIA Security+ required and must meet the stated DoD 8570 recency/CEU requirements.
  • CCNA/CCNP certification preferred.
  • Experience administering and managing highly available network infrastructure supporting 7,500+ users.
  • Hands-on Cisco routers, switches, and ISE design, configuration, installation, and troubleshooting experience required.
  • Hands-on experience with OSPF, VRF, VRRP, QoS, VLAN, STP, 802.1X/Dot1x, IP access control lists, IPsec, and Virtual Chassis/Stacking.
  • Strong Layer 2 and Layer 3 troubleshooting skills in a VoIP environment.
  • Hands-on experience with DHCP, Orion NPM/NCM, Cisco ISE, and Wireshark.
  • Experience upgrading network infrastructure software and working with AAA servers, SNMPv3, Syslog, and network monitoring tools.
  • Ability to serve as final ticket escalation point for network operations incidents.
  • Knowledge of Windows/Linux operating systems is an added plus.
  • Knowledge of TACLANE, Voice platforms, and UPS is an added plus.
  • Knowledge of W2K16/W2K19/IIS is an added plus.
  • Strong understanding of fiber/CAT5E/CAT6 cabling.
  • Ability to create and maintain operational procedures and classified/unclassified network topology maps using Visio.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, project management, customer service, critical-thinking, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a team environment; flexibility with hours required.
  • Ability to lift approximately 50+ lbs.
