Job description

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Mathematics and Computer Science Department at Hostos Community College of the City University of New York invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Department specifically seeks applicants with interest in teaching, research, and the capacity to participate in student guidance and curriculum development as well as other tasks normally associated with full-time teaching positions.
Hostos Community College faculty work closely with students and each other in an open and collegial atmosphere. Hostos has both a teaching and a research mission and the candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in Mathematics and Computer Science as well as electives within their area of research. The candidate will also be responsible for committee and other department assignments as needed.
Potential candidates should be able to work collaboratively, contribute to departmental priorities in teaching, student recruitment, guidance, and research, and be able to lead efforts to broaden participation in the Mathematics and Computer Science Department. Years of experience in the teaching of introductory Mathematics and Computer Science courses for students with diverse backgrounds in an urban setting is essential. Applicants should demonstrate interest in participating in department initiatives and contributing to the coordination and assessment of all courses in the department.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
The following qualifications are preferred:
• PhD in Mathematics OR Computer Science OR Combination of Mathematics and Computer Science.
• Candidates should have a record of professional development and/or professional experience commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor.
• Years of experience teaching introductory courses in Mathematics and Computer Science is essential.
• Ability to teach successfully in an urban multicultural setting, demonstrated scholarship or practical experience or achievement in the teaching of introductory courses
• Ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
• Availability to work evening and weekend hours.
• Bilingual skills.
COMPENSATION
$76,937 - $86,741; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
