Job description

Department:NursingOverall Purpose of the Position:

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the provider and/or nursing staff with all aspects of patient care.

Major Job Responsibilities:Percentage:

1. Able to process patients for examination by the provider by obtaining vital signs and history.  Documents the encounter in the EMR.  Assists provider/nursing staff with procedures and treatments as necessary.

2. Gives injections, administers oral medications, and performs limited treatments as indicated by, and under the supervision of the provider.

3. Assists in preparing information for patient appointments; such as labs, hospital reports, referrals and notes.  Able to complete office forms and documents.

4. Assist in the maintenance of electronic medical record (EMR).  Scans documents as required.

Keeps all treatment areas and nurse’s stations neat and clean at all times; orders all medical and clerical supplies and keeps the office stocked within designated par levels; cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization as necessary.20%6. Answers incoming phone calls and transfers the calls as needed.  Takes prescription (RX) messages, identifies and verifies information needed to schedule appointment requests. Assist with follow appointments or referrals.5%7. Works to help our patients and family members have a good experience. Takes initiative in problem solving, maintains confidentiality of patient and company information, and interacts with patients, co-workers, and management in a courteous and respectful manner.5%8. All other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.5%9. Demonstrates quality work, completes assignments on a timely basis, and makes decisions within limits of authority. Adheres to all company policies and procedures.2.5%10. Maintains time and attendance standards consistent with company policy.2.5%Minimum Qualifications: Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from a nine-month Medical Assistant course required. CPR/BLS Card required

Skills/Knowledge:

Must be able to manage multiple tasks at the same time; possesses strong telephone skills

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrates effective communication and telephone skills; computer literacy preferred.Equipment Use:

Personal computer, multi-line telephone, fax machine/copier, Medical equipment – i.e. BP cuff, pulse oximetry, EKG machine, glucometer, wheelchair.

Characteristics:

Physically fit to perform the duties of the position; Willingly participates as a member of the nursing team; possesses effective organizational skills and maintains a “can-do” attitude.

Environmental Factors:

Walking (85%); sitting (15%); lifts 25 lbs. with occasional heavier loads.
