Position Purpose:

The Scenic Artist I creates high finish, one-of-a kind two- or three-dimensional visual elements to support a variety of markets such as touring and theme parks. They take the clients’ designs and ideas provided by the production and design teams to create art pieces. These pieces could be temporary or permanent installation items. They will work closely with other artists to help ensure successful completion of projects. They are open and willing to learn new skills and techniques to increase their knowledge.  
 
Essential Responsibilities
 
•    Utilize a variety of artists disciplines/tools to create custom paint treatments, sculptures, graphic applications, ect.
•    Interpret design packets which can range from a collection of reference images to detailed elevations with color callouts, with direction/guidance from the lead artist
•    Assist with prototyping new processes and materials
•    Ability to adapt your hand/style to other artists work, to maintain consistent treatment across large scenic elements.
•    Communicate processes to a larger team, with a variety of skill levels, in a clear and repeatable way
•    Maintain awareness of deadlines; raise concerns and/or suggest adjustments if deadlines in jeopardy
•    Support quality control of elements by flagging areas not meeting designed finish and addressing appropriately through rework or bringing to the attention of the lead artist
•    Maintain effective and timely interdepartmental communication on project status; coordinate with others on elements passing through multiple departments
•    Ensure GHS compliancy by reading and following SDS and deploying appropriate labeling on containers
•    Perform tasks to company standards to efficiently and effectively meet department goals
•    Take initiative to improve methodology and find solutions to boost productivity
•    Communicate with management
•    Manage priorities as they change throughout a shift
•    Keep a clean, organized, and safe workspace, including tools and equipment
•    Accurately capture all labor hours in Epicor
•    Ensure TAIT’s 5 standards of care are coordinated into all daily activities: Safety, Quality, Team, Schedule, and Cost
•    Take ownership for decisions, actions, performance, and behavior
•    Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures
•    Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required. Engage in training/development programs to enhance skills
•    Perform assigned duties according to the policies and expectations prescribed by the company

Minimum Qualifications
 
•    Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Arts degree or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in scenic art, sculpture, props, or related arts field
•    Ladder and scissor lift training certification required, will train as needed
•    Foundational knowledge and experience in traditional paint and sculpting techniques
•    Primary knowledge of color theory and color mixing
•    Experience using hand and power tools
•    Ability to read and understand elevations and technical drawings
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to frequently walk, bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, stoop, and kneel each day. Specific requirements are:
