Job description

Description Tri-Com Central Dispatch (Tri-Com) located in Kane County, IL, is now accepting applications for the position of Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) Administrator. This technical position is responsible for managing and maintaining our Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, ensuring that it operates accurately and reliably to deliver efficient communications and support to police, fire and EMS operations. This is a critical role within our organization that operates with a great deal of independence and personal accountability.

Examples of Duties Under limited supervision, the CAD Administrator manages, maintains, and operates all components of Tri-Com's Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system hardware and software systems, including interfaces. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Performing routine maintenance, data entry, and coordinating updates to the GIS database and map Troubleshooting problems and installing software updates Maintaining the PSAP Management Gateway for the center's 911 CPE, including agency and agent maintenance, end-user screen configuration, layout, ESInet updates and telephone troubleshooting Generating and processing any needed reports as required or requested Performing other duties as assigned Typical Qualifications Education and Experience: Must be 21 years of age Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, or a related field; plus, three years' experience and demonstrated knowledge of methods and principles of managing, maintaining, troubleshooting and upgrading a public safety computer-aided dispatch system and associated software A minimum of four years of multi-discipline (police, fire & EMS) public safety dispatch experience Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

Significant experience in the public sector 911 environment, specifically with the management and maintenance of a CAD system is highly desirable. Candidates must have the ability to respond to after-hours inquiries and callbacks when hardware or software issues arise and on-duty staff cannot resolve the issue. Supplemental Information Tri-Com provides 911 and dispatch services for seven police departments and six fire departments primarily located in the far western suburbs of Chicago in Kane County.

Tri-Com serves an area of 200 square miles and a population of approximately 225,000 residents. Tri-Com employs an Executive Director, Deputy Director, IT Manager, Training Manager, CAD Administrator, GIS Administrator, Administrative Coordinator, Radio Technician, QA/QI Coordinator, 18 dispatchers, and three working shift supervisors. Tri-Com is seeking highly skilled, motivated, and qualified candidates for the position of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Administrator.

This is a unionized position and part of the collective bargaining agreement between Tri-Com Central Dispatch and The Metropolitan Alliance of Police, Chapter No. 531. Tri-Com offers a competitive benefit package that includes comprehensive medical insurance, generous paid time off as well as participation in IMRF, the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund Pension program.
