Position: Dental Lab Technician – Experienced CAD CAM Designer

Location: Huntsville, AL (Relocation assistance available)

Oral Arts is seeking an exceptional Senior Digital Dental Design Specialist with advanced expertise in digital dental technology and complex restorative design. This is not an entry-level CAD position. We are looking for a highly skilled professional who is recognized as a technical expert in digital dental design and can drive excellence in the quality, consistency, and efficiency of our digital workflow.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing crowns, bridges, implant restorations, custom abutments, full-arch restorations, and other complex prosthetic solutions using Exocad and/or 3Shape Dental System. Beyond software proficiency, this individual must possess a deep understanding of restorative principles, occlusion, function, esthetics, and manufacturing processes, with the ability to leverage advanced software capabilities to consistently produce predictable, highly aesthetic, and clinically successful restorations.

This role requires a detail-oriented professional who thrives on solving complex design challenges, mentoring others, optimizing digital workflows, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within a high-performing dental laboratory environment.

Description of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design single-unit crowns, bridges, veneers, implant restorations, custom abutments, bars, and complex restorative cases.
  • Create highly aesthetic restorations with proper anatomy, morphology, occlusion, contacts, emergence profiles, and tissue support.
  • Design implant restorations with an understanding of implant biomechanics, restorative principles, and prosthetic-driven treatment planning.
  • Utilize advanced features within exocad and/or 3Shape to optimize fit, function, and esthetics.
  • Troubleshoot difficult restorative cases and develop predictable digital solutions.
  • Improve digital workflows that increase efficiency while maintaining uncompromising quality.
  • Work closely with technicians, managers, and clinicians to achieve outstanding clinical results.
  • Mentor and train other designers, sharing best practices and elevating the technical skill level of the department.
  • Stay current with advancements in CAD/CAM technology, digital dentistry, implant systems, and restorative materials.


Required experience:

  • Expert-level proficiency in Exocad and/or 3Shape Dental System.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in digital dental CAD design.
  • Extensive knowledge of fixed prosthodontics, implant restorations, occlusion, morphology, and smile design.
  • Strong understanding of custom abutment design and implant-supported crown and bridge restorations.
  • Ability to produce restorations that require minimal adjustment during manufacturing and seating.
  • Excellent understanding of contour, emergence profile, connector design, occlusion, contacts, and margin integrity.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and elevate the performance of other digital designers.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Dental Technician (CDT) is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with multiple implant systems and digital workflows.
  • Experience with full-arch implant restorations (All-on-X), hybrid prostheses, and complex implant cases.
  • Experience with digital smile design and advanced aesthetic anterior restorations.
  • Experience integrating intraoral scans, facial scans, CBCT data, and digital treatment planning.
