Job Summary
The Director of Design Services is responsible for planning, directing, managing and providing oversight of organizational professional design services to ensure that organizational goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed schedules and budget parameters. Directs the work of a CAD draftsman. Effectively communicates with project owners (Administrators & hospital directors), engineers, field staff, technical staff, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and contractors to keep projects on schedule and prevent surprises. Provides internal and external coordination and collaboration with project partners and stakeholders. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Facilities and Property and collaborates closely with the Construction Services and Facilities departments. This position directly contributes to the growth of Lexington Health Inc. The position requires considerable judgment, decision-making and latitude in performing job duties and is expected to function effectively with minimal direct supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: Master's Degree in Architecture or Design
Minimum Years of Experience: 10 years of experience designing a broad range of acute care and medical office and procedural spaces
Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: License to practice Architecture in South Carolina
Required Training: Proficiency in design and visualization software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM;
Knowledge of building and codes, requirements and regulations
Essential Functions
  • Developing architectural designs meeting LMC specifications and budget, and local regulatory laws.
  • Creating detailed architectural plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Presenting designs, proposals, and progress reports to end users and stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with engineers, surveyors, contractors, and other professionals involved in the project.
  • Reviewing and managing contracts and tenders.
  • Overseeing and guiding the construction process, ensuring that the project adheres to the planned design, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Managing project deadlines and budgets, and making necessary adjustments to keep the project on track.
  • Staying updated on the latest architectural trends, technologies, and regulations.
  • Addressing any issues or delays that may arise during the construction process.
  • Lead the development of architectural designs and preliminary construction plans.

  • Ensure all project designs meet the necessary safety, structural, building code and regulatory standards.
  • Direct and collaborate with a draftsmen.
  • Meet with internal staff and medical professionals to understand their design needs, preferences and goals.
  • Ensure all design standards of the organization are met.
  • Coordinate with construction professionals, including engineers and contractors.
  • Prepare and present feasibility reports and design proposals.
  • Ensure all project milestones are met.
  • Stay updated with architectural trends and advancements.
  • Respect and adhere to all legal and regulatory standards in architecture and design.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
