Position Overview
Power Your Future with Qualus in our substation Protection & Control department as a Design Engineering Tech III. Engineering Techs are responsible for creating technical drawings and plans using AutoCAD 2D & 3D software. This involves interpreting designs from engineers and converting them into detailed drawings for engineering projects. The job requires proficiency in AutoCAD, as well as knowledge of drafting standards and techniques. The drafting technician may work on a variety of projects, such as electrical schematics or structural components, often collaborating with other engineering team members to achieve project goals. Responsibilities
  • Provide production CAD support by developing, implementing and enforcing CAD standards while supplying technical support for all CAD related software.
  • Prepare clean, complete and accurate documents, design and working drawings (including details) from rough or detailed specifications or sketches as prepared by the engineer by performing the following duties:
  • Following drawing production standards.
  • Preparing Construction and Demo drawings (As required) submission packages.
  • Preparing quality checks on final drawings and layouts
  • Cleaning CAD files for project closeout
  • Set up project drawing files, schedule drawing completions
  • Develop Single lines, three lines, AC and DC schematics, Panel layouts, Wiring Diagrams, sections and details using Auto CAD
  • Maintain CAD document archive and retrieval for projects and the integrity of the drawings and its system
  • Act as a liaison for operations, project teams, engineering design house and vendors
  • Check dimensions and parts, inserts cells and blocks into individual drawings.
  • Assist the Engineer with coordination and shop drawing review during the final administration of projects.
  • Organizes CAD drawings and files.
  • Subject matter expert (SME) for client's document control system and responsible for accurate transmittals per client requirements.
  • Creating and generating design reports to include creating rendering, material takeoffs, central files and work sets, and schedules and legend types.

Minimum Qualifications
  • AA/AS/BS degree in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, Engineering Technology, or related technical training or certifications.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • 2+ years of electrical design experience related to power utilities, plant maintenance or similar industries.
  • Advanced drafting and design skills.
  • Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to work well both in a team and independently.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to create aesthetically pleasing and useable drawings.
  • Effective presentation and communication skills.
