Job description

Job Description
Job Title: Fusion 360 CAD Modeler / Test Fixture Design Engineer
Location: Redmond, WA (onsite)
Role Summary
We are seeking a skilled Fusion 360 CAD Modeler to translate early test concepts into production ready test fixtures and scalable test systems. This role partners closely with engineering project leads and test owners to refine requirements, explore design options, and deliver manufacturable, cost effective fixture solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design skills with hands on assembly experience and a practical understanding of test system scalability.
Key Responsibilities
Concept Development & Requirements Refinement
  • Partner with engineering project leads to take high level test concepts and evolve them into clear, actionable design requirements
  • Actively question, refine, and improve requirements to ensure feasibility, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness
  • Identify ambiguities and drive resolution early to reduce downstream rework

Mechanical Design & Modeling
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models using Autodesk Fusion 360 for test fixtures and supporting hardware
  • Develop and present multiple design options where appropriate, clearly calling out trade offs related to cost, complexity, durability, and scalability
  • Ensure designs align with test intent, lab constraints, and long term maintenance needs

Bill of Materials & Budgeting
  • Generate detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) for fixtures and test systems
  • Develop cost estimates and budgets to support build decisions and scaling plans
  • Evaluate components and materials for availability, lead time, and cost stability

Build, Assembly & Scale Up
  • Assemble prototype and production fixtures, validating mechanical fit and functionality
  • Iterate designs based on hands on build and test feedback
  • Support scaling of fixture designs from single prototypes to multi station or high volume test environments
  • Document assembly procedures and recommended build practices

Cross Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with test engineers, validation teams, and lab operations to ensure fixtures meet test coverage and reliability needs
  • Support transitions from prototype to production test systems
  • Contribute to design reviews and provide clear technical rationale for design decisions

Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience using Autodesk Fusion 360 for mechanical design and 3D modeling
  • Strong foundation in mechanical design principles, tolerancing, and manufacturability
  • Experience creating BOMs and cost estimates for mechanical assemblies
  • Hands on experience assembling mechanical fixtures or test equipment
  • Ability to translate abstract concepts into practical, buildable solutions
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with engineering leads

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing test fixtures or lab automation equipment
  • Familiarity with scaling test systems across multiple stations or labs
  • Experience sourcing components and working with vendors or machine shops
  • Exposure to rapid prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing, quick turn machining)

What Success Looks Like
  • Test concepts are rapidly converted into reliable, production ready fixtures
  • Design trade offs are clearly communicated and well understood by stakeholders
  • Fixtures are cost effective, easy to assemble, and scalable across labs
  • Test systems are robust, repeatable, and support long term validation needs
