Position Summary

The UNMSchool of Law Information Technology Department is seeking a responsible,self-motivated student to join our IT team. This position provides hands-onexperience supporting the technology needs of faculty, staff, and studentswhile developing technical, customer service, and professional skills in acollaborative environment. UNM School of Law is comprised of academicoperations, large law firm support, and a variety of legal centers that servethe State of New Mexico. As a result, the experience our student employees gainextends well beyond technical support and provides valuable exposure toprofessional, legal, and higher education technology environments.
Dutiesinclude assisting with the maintenance of Windows-based laptops and desktops,Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365, multi-function and personal printers, andother technology resources throughout the Law School. Student employees willlearn to use University IT systems, including NetID account management andAdobe Creative Cloud installation, while triaging work tickets and issues,troubleshooting technical problems, performing technical functions, andassisting in training faculty, staff, and students on the technologiessupported by Law IT. Responsibilities also include assisting with commonMicrosoft Windows tasks such as mapping file shares, installing networkprinters, PC troubleshooting, resolving hardware and software issues oncomputers, scanners, printers, and mobile devices, deploying new computers andperipherals, imaging and setting up new systems, retiring old systems, andpreparing equipment for UNM Surplus. Student employees will also assist withstocking common multi-function printers with consumables and maintaining asecurity-minded approach to all IT systems and services. The successfulcandidate should demonstrate excellent customer service skills and an interestin teaching, communicating, and furthering users' understanding of the technologyservices provided by the Law IT Department.
Additionalduties may be assigned as necessary. This position requires the ability to liftmoderately heavy objects such as workstations and printers and to work underdesks and around obstacles while installing or servicing computer equipment.
While atechnical background is preferred, it is not an absolute requirement. Studentswho are dependable, task-oriented, and engaged in the technologies we supportare encouraged to apply and will find opportunities to develop both technicaland professional skills. Student employees work closely with Law IT staff andhave opportunities to learn new technologies, gain hands-on experience, andadvance within UNM's Student Employment promotion ladder.
Many of ourformer student employees, representing a variety of undergraduate and graduatedegree programs, have gone on to full-time IT positions in Albuquerque andthroughout the United States with organizations including the nationallaboratories, technical firms, federal courts, law firms, and other public andprivate employers.
The LawSchool's business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Weprefer student employees who can work 15-28 hours per week during the fall andspring semesters, although work schedules are adjusted to accommodate classschedules and approved time off.
