Job description

Job Summary:

This position exists for the purpose of assisting prospective and continuing students in planning and financing their college education and assisting the financial aid department in the management of internal and external financial resources for students. It is a full-time professional staff position of the college. 

Physical Requirements:

The position requires substantial time spent at a desk (telephone and computer work-station duties) but will also involve some physical activity such as walking to other locations on campus and distance driving to off-campus locations.  Physical stress may be placed on hands, wrists, or eyes due to prolonged use of a computer.  The individual should be able to perform job tasks without significant risk or personal injury, or otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform these essential functions listed above or listed in a particular description.

Education and Experience: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an education or business administration field.
  • Minimum two years’ professional experience in financial aid or higher education preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and able to handle confidential matters.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high attention to detail.
  • Good organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer proficiency, preferably in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong customer service skills.

  Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Advise students and families regarding financial aid programs offered by federal, state, and institutional, as well as alternative financing options.
  • Complete financial aid packaging for prospective and current students.
  • Perform verification of student and parent FAFSA data in compliance with federal criteria.
  • Determine the types and amounts of financial aid to be offered to students through the packaging process according to federal, state, and institutional requirements.
  • Monitor individual student offers and enrollment status changes.
  • Certify and process Federal Direct Loans for students.
  • Keep current on all regulatory changes from the state and federal government.
  • Complete internal financial aid and statistical reports for students as well as other reports and evaluations as directed.
  • Attend workshops and meetings sponsored by state and federal governments.
  • May have to work occasional nights or weekends for outreach events.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned.
