Job description

The Server Administrator, under the supervision of the Senior Director of Information Services, is responsible for the expert design, implementation, and advanced administration of the organization's critical, multi-platform server infrastructure, including Dell/HP hardware, Windows and Linux operating systems, and diverse virtualization technologies (VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V). This pivotal role ensures the continuous, secure operation and lifecycle management of core enterprise services—specifically Windows Active Directory, Group Policy Objects
(GPOs), DNS, and DHCP—while developing and routinely testing robust Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) strategies. The Administrator provides Tier 3 support for server and enterprise messaging systems (including Microsoft Exchange/cloud solutions), maintains strict HIPAA and security compliance, and requires mandatory on-site attendance.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Requires mandatory on-site attendance.
Maintains confidentiality at all times and complies with HIPAA and security compliance guidelines at all times.
Design, install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual server environments across the enterprise.
Provide advanced administration and troubleshooting for multi-vendor server hardware, including Dell PowerEdge and HP ProLiant servers (rack and blade systems).
Continuously monitor server health, capacity, and resource utilization, proactively addressing performance bottlenecks and planning for necessary upgrades and lifecycle management.
Manage backup and restore process.
Develop, implement, and routinely test disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC) plans for critical server systems.
Expertly manage and maintain Windows Server Operating Systems (e.g., 2016, 2019, 2022), Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
Support vendor applications systems in server environment.
Take ownership of user problems and be proactive when dealing with user issues.
Allocate complex calls to appropriate IT Support member and/or partners.
Participate and assist in implementing the Knowledge Management Process.
Excellent time management and organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and projects with minimal supervision.
Maintain and enhance cooperative interdepartmental and vendor relationships and communications.
Attends and participates in meetings, committees, and training sessions as directed by Director of Information Technology.
Participates in the analysis of Information Technology options to meet research and educational needs as it relates to server technology.
Ability to work a flexible schedule and second tier on call.
Perform additional duties as assigned.


TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
4+ years of experience in server administration, or a related infrastructure role, preferably within a large or complex environment.
Must have the ability to speak, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
Expertise in architecting, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-level directory services, specifically Windows Active Directory and Group Policy Objects (GPOs), alongside critical network services (DNS, DHCP).
Proven experience overseeing the full system lifecycle—including design, installation, configuration, migrations, and upgrades—of multi-platform server environments (Windows Server and Linux) and associated Microsoft server applications.
Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and routinely test robust Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) strategies for all critical server and enterprise messaging systems
Expert-level knowledge of virtualization technologies, including significant experience with both VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V
Strong understanding of network storage (SAN/NAS) concepts and how they integrate with virtual and physical server environments.
Hands-on experience providing Tier 3 support for Microsoft Exchange Server environments, including on-premises support, disaster recovery, and cloud migration
Cloud and / or hosted solutions experience.

Healthcare experience preferred.
Keep up to date on the latest technologies and certificates.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSE
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Relevant certifications (e.g., VCP, MCSE, CompTIA Server+) are highly desirable.
