Job description

We are seeking an experienced, California-licensed Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) to lead retail pharmacy operations with a strong emphasis on regulatory compliance, non-sterile compounding oversight, operational excellence, and patient safety.
This role is suited for a senior pharmacist with demonstrated leadership experience who meets all qualifications required by the California Board of Pharmacy to serve as PIC. The successful candidate will take full accountability for regulatory compliance, compounding standards, workflow optimization, and pharmacy performance.
Core Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Board Oversight
  • Ensure full compliance with federal and California pharmacy regulations, including Title 16, Division 17 of the California Code of Regulations
  • Serve as Pharmacist in Charge as defined by the California Board of Pharmacy
  • Maintain pharmacy licensure, permits, and regulatory documentation
  • Act as primary liaison for inspections, audits, and regulatory inquiries
  • Oversee quality assurance and compounding compliance protocols
Pharmacy Operations & Compounding Oversight
  • Direct day-to-day retail pharmacy operations, workflow efficiency, and inventory control
  • Oversee non-sterile compounding practices in accordance with state regulations
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure prescription accuracy and patient safety
  • Maintain pharmacy records, documentation integrity, and compliance reporting
Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise pharmacists, technicians, and support staff
  • Lead hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management
  • Establish clear operational standards and accountability measures
  • Foster a professional, compliance-focused work environment
Patient Care & Clinical Standards
  • Provide direct patient counseling and medication therapy guidance

  • Monitor pharmacy financial performance, budgets, and cost controls
  • Analyze operational metrics and implement performance improvements

Required Qualifications
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited institution
  • Active California Pharmacist License in good standing
  • Must meet all legal requirements to serve as Pharmacist in Charge under California Board of Pharmacy regulations
  • Minimum 5 years of pharmacist experience in a retail or compounding environment
  • Demonstrated supervisory or management experience
  • Strong working knowledge of California compounding regulations
  • Proficiency in pharmacy management systems (PioneerRx or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal training or certification in non-sterile compounding
  • Experience leading pharmacy inspections or regulatory audits
  • Proven track record of operational improvement and compliance leadership
