About Compost Power

Compost Power (CP) is a community-based composting non-profit in NYC dedicated to turning food waste into healthy soil. We partner with NYCHA communities to build sustainable, local composting systems that promote environmental justice, food sovereignty, and community empowerment. Compost Power currently supports 9 small-scale compost sites in NYCHA developments and operates a medium scale site in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

We’re expanding! After 5 successful years, Compost Power is partnering with Green City Force, a NYC-based non-profit organization, to create a strong foundation for our growing operations. We’re looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team and help us build the future of our organization.

Position Summary

The Executive Assistant will work directly with the CEO to support daily operations, communications, and community engagement. This role combines administrative and creative responsibilities: keeping the CEO organized, managing schedules and communications, and building Compost Power’s presence on social media platforms. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and passionate about sustainability and grassroots community work.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

Executive Support

  • Manages the CEO’s calendar, scheduling, and email communications.
  • Prepare materials for internal and external meetings, including agendas, presentations, and etc. Attend meetings to capture detailed notes and manage follow-up actions to ensure objectives are met.
  • Coordinate logistics for a variety of events, from on-site visits to community meetings, which includes, but not limited to, managing calendar invitations and day-of execution .
  • Assist with coordinating activities between Compost Power and partnering organizations, including non-profit organizations, foundations, individuals, and etc.
  • Support the CEO with high priority initiatives and special projects that involve preparing reports and/or conducting research to achieve key organizational goals.

Social Media & Communications

  • Create and manage content for Compost Power’s social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.). Capture photos and videos of composting activities, workshops, and events.
  • Develop storytelling strategies to highlight NYCHA partnerships, community composting, and environmental justice impact.
  • Track analytics and engagement to grow Compost Power’s online presence.
  • Design flyers, newsletters, and digital campaigns for events and initiatives.

Community & Organizational Support

  • Build and foster engagement with community partners, volunteers, and stakeholders virtually and in person.
  • Help maintain consistent branding and messaging across communications.
  • Provide general administrative and operational support as needed.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in administrative support, social media management, or communications.
  • Strong writing, editing, and content creation skills.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, scheduling tools, and basic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe, or similar).
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, community-centered environment.
  • Commitment to Compost Power’s mission of sustainability, equity, and community empowerment.
  • Familiarity with NYC and NYCHA communities is a strong plus.
