Job description

Satellite Services, Inc. is looking for Heavy Equipment Operators to assist with our contract with Grissom Joint Air Reserve Base, IN. This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt CBA position to start August 1, 2026.

This is a highly skilled position in the operation of heavy construction equipment in that it requires the incumbent to operate heavy, motorized equipment used in maintaining roads, airport runways, and rights-of-way. Duties may include plowing, street sweeping operations, and patching broken or eroded pavement. May also mow or clear brush from roadways or plow snow from roadways. Other duties might include but not limited to the operation of: tankers, dozers, scrapers, loaders, mobile compost mixers, compost turner, 18 wheel tractor-trailers, crane, excavator, etc. and other equipment to support a variety of operations. This class might build level and excavate land surfaces using graders and other construction equipment; gather and load dirt and waste products from job sites onto trucks. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Drive heavy equipment and vehicles with adjustable attachments to sweep debris from paved surfaces, mow grass and weeds, remove snow and ice, and spread salt and sand.
  • Use of hand-held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records and enter data in computer.
  • Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Haul and spread sand, gravel, and clay to fill washouts and repair road shoulders.
  • Dump, spread, and tamp asphalt, using pneumatic tampers, to repair joints and patch broken pavement.
  • Clean and clear debris from culverts, catch basins, drop inlets, ditches, and other drain structures.
  • Remove litter and debris from roadways, including debris from rock and mud slides.
  • Inspect, clean, and repair drainage systems, bridges, tunnels, and other structures.
  • Perform roadside landscaping work, such as clearing weeds and brush, and planting and trimming trees.
  • Inspect markers to verify accurate installation.
  • Paint traffic control lines and place pavement traffic messages, by hand or using machines.
  • Apply oil to road surfaces, using sprayers.
  • Measure and mark locations for installation of markers, using tape, string, or chalk.
  • Place and remove snow fences used to prevent the accumulation of drifting snow on highways.
  • Set out signs and cones around work areas to divert traffic.

Physical Requirements:

The position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting and the ability to manually manipulate controls. In addition, the employee must reach, climb, squat/kneel, bend grasp and speak. Vision within normal ranges is required along with a sense of balance and wearing of personal protective equipment. The ability to frequently lift up to 100lbs and/or push/pull up to 25lbs is required.

Environment:

Exposure to extreme weather, cold and hot; exposure to debris including dust, sand etc.; working in confined spaces.

Required Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent
  • Security Clearance (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • 5 years of experience in Heavy Equipment Operation

Necessary Licenses or Certifications:

Valid Commercial Driver's License

Work Schedule:

  • Full-Time (40 hours per week)
  • Position may require various shifts and work on Saturdays and Sundays

This position is designated as essential. This means that when the facility is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in this position may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at the facility.
