Job description

Position Title: Centrifugal Pump Rebuilder / Pump Remanufacturing Technician Location: Lubbock, Texas Department: Remanufacturing / Production Reports To: Production Manager

Position Summary

The Centrifugal Pump Rebuilder is responsible for the complete teardown, inspection, repair, and rebuild of centrifugal pumps and bearing housings as part of full pump package remanufacturing projects. This position ensures pumps are restored to OEM specifications and ready for integration into remanufactured diesel-driven pump packages.

The role requires strong mechanical skills, attention to detail, and experience working with rotating equipment in an industrial shop environment.

Key Responsibilities

Pump Disassembly & Inspection

  • Disassemble centrifugal pumps and bearing housings according to established procedures.
  • Inspect internal components including impellers, shafts, bearings, wear rings, seals, and housings.
  • Measure critical tolerances using precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
  • Identify worn or damaged components requiring repair or replacement.
  • Document inspection findings and required replacement parts.

Pump Rebuild & Assembly

  • Rebuild centrifugal pumps to OEM specifications using new or reconditioned components.
  • Install bearings, seals, wear rings, gaskets, and other internal components.
  • Reassemble bearing housings and lubrication systems.
  • Set proper internal clearances and tolerances during assembly.
  • Perform shaft alignment and proper torquing of fasteners.

Quality & Testing

  • Verify rebuilt pumps meet mechanical tolerances and assembly standards.
  • Support pump testing and inspection processes when required.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to rebuilds.

Documentation

  • Record rebuild steps, parts used, and inspection measurements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for remanufactured pump packages.

Safety & Shop Practices

  • Follow all company safety procedures and lockout/tagout protocols.
  • Safely operate shop equipment including overhead cranes and lifting devices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience rebuilding centrifugal pumps, rotating equipment, or similar mechanical equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience reading mechanical drawings and assembly diagrams.
  • Familiarity with bearing installation and seal systems.
  • Ability to use precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and handle heavy mechanical components.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ANSI or industrial centrifugal pumps.
  • Experience in a pump repair shop or remanufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of diesel-driven pump packages.
  • Experience with shaft alignment and pump troubleshooting.
  • Forklift or overhead crane experience.

Work Environment

  • Industrial manufacturing and remanufacturing facility.
  • Exposure to mechanical equipment, oils, grease, and cleaning solvents.
  • Frequent standing, lifting, and working with heavy components.
