Component Tester information

What is a component tester?

Component testers are professionals who evaluate and verify the functionality and quality of individual electronic components or assemblies before they are integrated into larger systems. Their main tasks include testing for faults, measuring performance parameters, and ensuring components meet specified standards and requirements. They use specialized testing equipment and follow established procedures to identify defects, helping to prevent faulty parts from reaching the final product. Component testers play a critical role in maintaining product quality and reliability in industries such as electronics, automotive, and manufacturing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a component tester?

To thrive as a Component Tester, you need a solid understanding of electronics, circuit analysis, and testing procedures, typically supported by a technical diploma or degree in electronics or engineering. Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and automated test systems, as well as knowledge of relevant quality standards, is essential. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for this role. These skills ensure accurate identification of faults, reliable testing processes, and the delivery of high-quality electronic components.

What are some common challenges faced by component testers, and how can they be addressed?

Component Testers often encounter challenges such as identifying intermittent faults, ensuring compatibility with various system components, and keeping up with evolving testing technologies. To address these, it's important to stay up-to-date with the latest testing tools and methodologies, maintain clear communication with design and engineering teams, and develop strong troubleshooting skills. Regular training and collaboration with colleagues can also help testers adapt to new challenges and ensure high-quality component performance.

What is the difference between Component Tester vs Electronics Technician?

AspectComponent TesterElectronics Technician
Required CredentialsTypically high school diploma or equivalent; certifications like IPC or industry-specific trainingHigh school diploma or equivalent; often technical certifications or associate degree in electronics
Work EnvironmentManufacturing facilities, quality control labs, or testing centersElectronics repair shops, manufacturing plants, or maintenance departments
Industry UsageUsed mainly in manufacturing and quality assurance for testing individual componentsUsed in repair, maintenance, and assembly of electronic systems

Component Testers focus on testing individual electronic components for quality and functionality, often working in manufacturing or quality control settings. Electronics Technicians have broader responsibilities, including repairing, maintaining, and assembling electronic systems. While both roles require technical knowledge, Component Testers specialize in component-level testing, whereas Electronics Technicians handle system-level tasks.

Job description

We are seeking a Lead Test Automation Architectto define and lead an enterprise-gradetest automation strategyacross UI, API, data, and platform layers-while evolving our quality engineering capabilities to supportAgentic AI / LLM-based systems(probabilistic outputs, confidence-based validation, hallucination detection, and model evaluation). This role will architect scalable automation frameworks, drive engineering excellence, and accelerate delivery through highly productive, maintainable automation programs.Key ResponsibilitiesAutomation Strategy & Architecture
  • Define and own thetest automation architecture and multi-layer strategy(UI/API/contract/integration/e2e), aligned to product risk and release cadence.
  • Establish automationstandards, patterns, and reference implementations(framework structure, page-object/screenplay usage, test data patterns, reporting).
  • Driveshift-left testingpractices (contract testing, component testing, pre-merge validation) and reduce reliance on fragile end-to-end tests.
Agentic AI / LLM Test Model Alignment
  • Design and implement testing approaches fornon-deterministic AI outputs, including:
    • confidence/threshold-based assertions
    • semantic similarity checks and rubric-based validation
    • goldens/benchmark datasets and evaluation harnesses
    • hallucination and groundedness testing strategies
    • regression detection across model/prompt/version changes
  • Define AI test coverage acrossaccuracy, robustness, bias/safety (as applicable), performance, and reliability.
  • Partner with ML/AI, Product, and Engineering to establishacceptance criteriafor AI capabilities and measurable quality gates.
High-Productivity Automation Programs
  • Build and scalehigh-throughput automation projectsthat are reliable, fast, and easy to extend.
  • Improvetest execution time, reduce flaky tests, and optimize CI/CD pipelines (parallelization, test selection, retries with guardrails).
  • Create actionable, engineering-friendlyquality dashboards(pass/fail trends, flake rate, coverage, defect escape metrics).
Tooling, CI/CD, and Quality Gates
  • Integrate automation into CI/CD withquality gates(PR checks, nightly suites, release readiness criteria).
  • Standardizeobservability for testing: logs, tracing hooks, screenshots/video, artifacts, and test run diagnostics.
  • Define practices fortest environments, data management, service virtualization, and dependency control.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
  • Serve as the QE technical authority: coach engineers on automation design, code quality, and best practices.
  • Lead design reviews for test architecture and automation PRs; enforce coding standards and maintainability.
  • Influence roadmap and delivery by translating risk into clear testing priorities.
Required Qualifications
  • 8-12+ yearsin Quality Engineering / Test Automation witharchitect-level ownershipof frameworks and strategy.
  • Proven experience designing scalable automation across:
    • API testing(contract + integration)
    • UI automationwith stable locator strategies (test IDs, accessibility roles)
    • Test datastrategy and environment reliability
  • Strong programming skills in at least one modern language (e.g.,Java, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, C#).
  • Expertise with automation tools/frameworks (examples):
    • UI: Playwright / Cypress / Selenium
    • API: REST-assured / SuperTest / Postman/Newman / pytest
    • CI: GitHub Actions / Jenkins / Azure DevOps
  • Demonstrated ability to reduce flakiness and improve execution speed throughengineering solutions.
Preferred Qualifications (Strongly Desired)
  • Experience testingLLM/Agentic AIfeatures or other probabilistic systems, including:
    • evaluation harnesses, benchmark datasets, semantic scoring, and drift detection
    • prompt/version regression strategies and structured evaluation reports
  • Familiarity with modern quality approaches:test pyramid,contract testing,consumer-driven contracts,risk-based testing,shift-left.
  • Knowledge of security/performance testing integration (baseline understanding; hands-on is a plus).
  • Experience building reusable automation libraries for multiple teams/products.
