Tax Director of Practice Operations What Youโ€™ll Do

Lead the day-to-day operations of the Tax Department, ensuring efficient service delivery and achievement of departmental goals

Oversee tax compliance workflows and monitor tax return production to ensure timely completion of engagements and filing deadlines

Partner with Tax Principals and Managers to manage workload capacity, project status, and resource allocation across the department

Drive process improvement, standardization, and operational efficiency to enhance productivity, quality, and client service

Monitor key performance metrics including utilization, realization, profitability, turnaround times, and department performance

Support tax season planning, workforce forecasting, scheduling strategies, and workload balancing to meet business demands

Lead, coach, and develop team members while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Champion the use of technology, automation, reporting tools, and AI-enabled solutions to streamline operations and improve visibility

Collaborate with firm leadership and cross-functional teams to align staffing, budgeting, and operational priorities with business objectives

Support recruiting, onboarding, talent development, and compliance with firm policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in public accounting, tax operations, tax administration, tax compliance management, or professional services operations, including experience supporting tax service delivery and department performance.
  • Preferred: Prior experience in a tax practice operations leadership role, such as Tax Operations Director, Tax Practice Administrator, Tax Practice Manager, Tax Operations Manager, or similar role.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with tax practice management and workflow platforms such as CCH Axcess, Workflow/XCM, SafeSend, Aiwyn, Beeye, or comparable systems.
  • Preferred: Experience supporting a large, multi-office, or complex tax practice with multiple service lines, specialized practice areas, shared resources, or significant seasonal capacity needs.
  • Preferred: CPA, EA, or JD preferred, but not required, when the candidate has significant tax operations leadership experience.
