Job description

Research Technology Operations Manager

Our enterprise-level client is seeking to add a Research Technology Operations Manager to work onsite in Ann Arbor, MI. Job notes include a 3-6+ month contract with possible extensions and permanent conversion with good performance. The start date is ASAP and the position is onsite in Ann Arbor, MI. Drug and background checks are required.

Management and Service Operations (60%)
  • Develop research technology strategies and plans, in collaboration with ARC management, research and academic staff. Collaborate with key stakeholders and ITS leadership to develop key performance indicators. Communicate progress against metrics on a periodic basis.
  • Through ongoing collaboration with ARC management and teams, establishes and monitors metrics for service resources to proactively source supply needs and ensure recurring inventory needs are addressed.
  • Participates as a key working member of the team, by contributing to solving issues, priority-setting and resource allocation.
  • Manages multiple, related projects in a coordinated way, ensuring projects are completed within time and budget requirements utilizing standard project and program management tools and techniques.
  • Facilitates ARC leadership decisions and develops compelling business cases to be reviewed at the highest levels of leadership.
  • Evaluate and document business processes ensuring proactive and appropriate dissemination of information. Maintains all appropriate documentation using a standard, visual format.
  • Work with customers and unit partners to analyze and resolve complex issues; providing alternative solutions as necessary.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory in alignment with orders and vendor needs
  • Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with academic and administrative policies and procedures within an operating unit. Recommend new internal policies, guidelines and procedures.
Business Relationship Management & Communications (40%)
  • Clearly and concisely communicates planned changes and initiatives to the research community.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the organization to identify research technology needs and opportunities. Review current services and need for expansion of services and work with ARC leads to determine viability.
  • Manages the relationship and coordination with key support staff across ITS and academic units.
  • Collaborates and provides transparency to service owners, managers, and other ITS leaders to ensure research initiatives are well understood and organizational impacts are addressed.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technology
  • Proven ability to lead a high-performing, customer-oriented team dedicated to advancing the research mission
  • Excellent project management, organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to contribute and collaborate effectively as a member of a highly-functioning and productive team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desired Qualifications:
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Familiarity with research computing environments (High Performance Computing, Storage, data lifecycle, Globus, etc)
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements, or the ability to quickly understand them and translate for developers
