Job description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee complex steel fabrication projects from contract award through final delivery. This position serves as the primary point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders, ensuring projects are executed safely, delivered on schedule, remain within budget, and meet all contractual and customer requirements.

The ideal candidate will have experience in structural steel fabrication, strong drawing comprehension, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Position Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for coordinating all phases of assigned projects, including customer submittals, schedules, procurement, fabrication coordination, quality requirements, and customer communication. This role works closely with engineering, quality, purchasing, and production teams to ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Manage projects from contract award through final shipment and closeout.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned customers throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Maintain high levels of quality control and customer satisfaction.

  • Review customer specifications, contract documents, engineering drawings, and fabrication drawings to ensure project requirements are understood and executed.

  • Prepare, compile, review, and submit customer submittal packages.

  • Coordinate and track project schedules to ensure milestones and delivery dates are achieved.

  • Review fabrication drawings for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.

  • Work with engineering, quality, and fabrication personnel to resolve technical issues and Requests for Information (RFIs).

  • Coordinate with purchasing to prioritize material procurement based on lead times and project schedules.

  • Monitor project budgets and assist in maintaining profitability targets.

  • Communicate project status, risks, and scheduling concerns to management and customers.

  • Submit and manage RFIs, submittals, schedules, and project documentation.

  • Assist with project estimating activities, including material pricing, subcontractor costs, machining requirements, and transportation costs as needed.

  • Maintain project documentation and records throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to project execution and customer service.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, detailing, drafting, estimating, project coordination, or project management.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, engineering drawings, and project specifications.

  • Understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes, including cutting, forming, machining, welding, and assembly.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred
  • Experience managing structural steel, water control gate, hoist, or other complex fabricated steel projects.

  • Associate's degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software.

  • Knowledge of quality management systems, contract administration, and project scheduling.

  • Experience reviewing, interpreting, and managing contract requirements.
