Terraphase Engineering is seeking a Business Development Leader to drive the continued growth of our Environmental Services practice throughout Washington. This senior leadership role is responsible for expanding client relationships, leading strategic pursuits, mentoring technical professionals, and helping shape the long term growth of our regional practice.

The Role

As the Business Development Leader, you will play a key role in expanding Terraphase's Environmental Services practice throughout the state of Washington by balancing business development, project leadership, and technical excellence.

Drive Strategic Growth
  • Develop and execute business development strategies that support continued growth throughout Washington.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with public agencies, municipalities, developers, ports, utilities, energy companies, industrial clients, tribal governments, and private sector organizations.
  • Identify emerging markets, strategic partnerships, and long term growth opportunities aligned with Terraphase's strategic vision.
  • Lead capture planning, pursuit strategies, proposal development, and client presentations for complex environmental consulting opportunities.
  • Represent Terraphase at industry conferences, professional organizations, networking events, and client meetings.
  • Collaborate with technical leaders across the company to deliver integrated solutions that address client needs.
Lead Successful Projects
  • Lead multidisciplinary environmental consulting projects from proposal through completion.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, profitability, and client satisfaction.
  • Provide strategic guidance and technical oversight on complex environmental projects.
  • Ensure high quality project delivery while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Stay current on evolving federal, state, and local environmental regulations, industry trends, and best practices.
Build and Develop the Practice
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop project managers and technical staff.
  • Foster collaboration across Terraphase offices and technical disciplines.
  • Help build a high performing Environmental Services team that supports long term growth.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the development of future leaders across the organization.
Who You Are

You are an accomplished environmental consulting professional who enjoys developing business while remaining engaged in meaningful technical work. You understand that credibility is earned through technical expertise, responsiveness, and consistently exceeding client expectations.

You are equally comfortable leading a client strategy meeting, mentoring project managers, reviewing technical deliverables, or presenting at an industry conference. Most importantly, you enjoy helping build something bigger than yourself while supporting the success of your clients, colleagues, and community.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, Planning, or a related technical discipline.
  • 15 or more years of progressive environmental consulting experience.
  • Demonstrated success developing and growing client relationships that generate repeat business.
  • Proven ability to lead major pursuits and win complex environmental consulting projects.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary environmental projects from proposal through completion.
  • Strong understanding of Washington environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and environmental compliance programs.
  • Experience leading and mentoring technical professionals.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Licensed Geologist (LG), Licensed Engineering Geologist (LEG), Licensed Hydrogeologist (LHG), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or other relevant professional registration.
  • Established relationships with Washington public agencies, municipalities, tribal governments, transportation agencies, developers, ports, utilities, energy companies, industrial clients, or commercial clients.
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following service areas:
    • Site Assessment and Remediation
    • Environmental Compliance
    • Due Diligence
    • Water Resources
    • Industrial Hygiene
    • Hazardous Building Materials
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Brownfield Redevelopment
    • Sustainability and ESG
  • Experience leading geographically distributed teams across multiple offices.
  • Experience developing annual business plans, growth strategies, and key account plans.

Compensation for this position is based on years of experience, technical expertise, technical education, and geographic location.

Pay Range
$145,000—$200,000 USD
