Job Description

Lead and manage all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs for the Miamisburg manufacturing facility to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and alignment with Avery Dennison corporate standards. This position serves as the site EHS subject matter expert and strategic partner to the plant leadership team leadership, driving a proactive, risk-based safety culture focused on Zero Harm, regulatory excellence, operational continuity, and environmental stewardship.

The Site EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving site-level EHS systems, ensuring effective hazard identification and control, regulatory compliance assurance, injury and environmental incident prevention, and alignment with enterprise EHS initiatives.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Safety Leadership: Partner with site leadership to drive culture through visible engagement, accountability, and behavior-based safety initiatives.

  • Management Systems: Implement and maintain the site EHS Management System (ISO 14001 / ISO 45001) and ensure alignment with corporate standards.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Act as the primary liaison and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for OSHA, EPA, Ohio EPA, and fire code requirements; oversee hazardous waste, stormwater, and environmental obligations.

  • Incident Management: Lead root cause investigations for injuries and near-misses; manage the CAPA process and drive reduction in recordable incidents using data-driven indicators.

  • Occupational Health: Manage site workers' compensation cases in collaboration with the Sr. Occupational Health Nurse and TPA.

  • Cross-Functional Support: Review capital projects with maintenance/engineering to mitigate risks during design; support sustainability goals (e.g., landfill-free and recycling).

  • Audit & Documentation: Lead internal/external audits and maintain accurate records within enterprise systems (LMS, incident management, etc.).

  • Training & Ethics: Deliver Life Saving Rule-aligned training and handle confidential matters with the highest degree of discretion.

Supervisory & Decision-Making

  • Leadership: Directly supervise and develop a team of EHS Professionals (Specialists, Technicians) and the Site Security Supervisor.

  • Authority: Exercise independent authority over site-level EHS operations and immediate hazard mitigation; collaborate with leadership on strategic investments and policy.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required (Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering preferred).

  • Certifications: CSP, ASP, CIH, or CHMM preferred.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Experience: 7+ years of progressive EHS leadership in a manufacturing environment.

  • Regulatory Expertise: Mastery of OSHA General Industry (29 CFR 1910), EPA/environmental compliance (waste, air, water), and Workers' Compensation.

  • Technical Proficiency: Analytical data tools, Google Workspace, and enterprise EHS systems (Enablon/Smartsheet preferred).

  • Core Competencies: Lead complex injury investigations (CAPA), influence operations leadership, and deliver high-impact training to large groups.

Physical Requirements & Environment

  • Mobility: Ability to walk production floors, climb stairs/ladders, and lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Environment: Comfortable in a high-activity manufacturing setting (noise, chemicals, temperature shifts).

  • Location: 100% On-site (Miamisburg, OH) with <10% travel.
