Your Opportunity
Join Stantec's team in Lombard, IL as an environmental project manager in our Remediation business line supporting complex environmental consulting projects focusing on site characterization, remediation, and brownfield revitalization for key clients. Projects will include implementing environmental site assessments (soil, sediment, and groundwater); remediation; due diligence; and vapor intrusion investigations in a variety of client service areas throughout the Midwest.
The position requires an independent individual with solid problem solving and communication skills, and environmental remediation experience. Project management experience and professional licensure (e.g. PE, PG) are preferred.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform remedial activities at affected facilities, properties, or sites addressing chemical impacts in air, surface water, soil, soil vapor, groundwater, and/or sediment.
  • Managing or overseeing personnel conducting due diligence, Phase I ESAs or other environmental projects.
  • Conduct intrusive site investigations, Phase II ESAs, facility investigations, and remedial investigations of vapor, surface water, soil, groundwater, and/or sediment to determine the presence or absence, nature, and extent of constituents of concern.
  • Collect, and interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to confirm compliance.
  • Compiling, evaluating, analyzing, and presenting/reporting subsurface investigation data and preparing technical reports.
  • Contribute to design and optimization of environmental remediation systems and strategies.
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships with direct communication with clients and regulators and respond to comments and problems as quickly as possible.
  • Collaborate with other scientific and engineering professionals within the practice.
  • Coordinate each project with the client and government agencies as necessary.
  • Mentor and provide direct hands-on assistance when teaching new environmental analyses, oral and writing skills to environmental specialists and staff scientists.
  • Stay current with environmental procedures, statutes, rules, guidance and policies.
  • Preparation of health & safety plans, work plans, reports, and other technical documents.
  • Coordination and oversight of subcontractors, including health and safety management.
  • Project management responsibilities may include developing proposals; managing project budgets and schedules; coordinating with clients, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and internal project staff; and performing and overseeing project technical work.
  • Mentoring and/or supervising team members (e.g. engineer or geologists in training).
  • Travel may be required for the purpose of overseeing field crews, participating in off-site meetings, or training.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong technical aptitude and technical/grant writing ability
  • Excellent organizational, communications, and problem-solving skills (able to communicate solutions in writing, verbally and graphically)
  • Ability to prioritize work and make responsible decisions
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet strict project deadlines.
  • Ability to travel regionally and locally as required for proposal and project needs (up to 25%).
  • Ability to pass a background security check and drug screen.
  • Valid US driver's license and good driving record.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or Engineering or related field of study
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a project manager, predominantly in environmental remediation
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Professional Engineering (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) License preferred a plus but not required
  • Prior experience in environmental consulting required
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred
  • Experience managing projects within the Illinois EPA Voluntary Site Remediation Program (SRP) and/or Due Diligence (Phase I / II ESA) is preferred

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
