Position Overview
The Medical Director provides physician-level oversight for Provive Wellness's Scranton, PA site, a dual-licensed program serving Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Mental Health (MH) clients. This role holds ultimate clinical and medical decision-making authority for the site, with particular focus on managing higher-acuity clients, leading treatment team meetings, and providing direct oversight of the site's Nurse Practitioner(s).
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Oversight & Medical Decision-Making:
  • Serve as physician of record for the Scranton site, holding ultimate responsibility for all medical decisions.
  • Directly manage and oversee care for higher-acuity clients requiring physician-level assessment and intervention.
  • Conduct medical evaluations, oversee medication management, and approve treatment plans for complex cases.
  • Ensure clinical practices comply with SUD and MH licensing standards and regulatory requirements.

Treatment Team Leadership:
  • Lead treatment team meetings, guiding clinical decision-making across the multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with clinical, nursing, and case management staff to align treatment plans with client needs and program goals.
  • Provide clinical guidance and consultation on complex or higher-risk cases.

Supervision:
  • Provide direct oversight and supervision of the site's Nurse Practitioner(s), ensuring care delivered is consistent with medical protocols and standards.
  • Review and co-sign NP documentation, orders, and treatment plans as required by state regulations.
  • Serve as the point of clinical escalation for the NP and support their professional development.

Program & Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure the site maintains compliance with all state and federal regulations governing SUD and MH licensure.
  • Participate in quality assurance, utilization review, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Stay current on best practices, clinical guidelines, and regulatory changes affecting SUD and MH treatment.

Other Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with site leadership on admissions decisions for clinically complex clients.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to program development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills
Education & Licensure:
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in Pennsylvania (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Board certification in Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry, or a related specialty preferred.
  • Active DEA registration; buprenorphine/MOUD prescribing certification preferred.

Experience:
  • Prior experience treating SUD and/or mental health populations, particularly higher-acuity clients.
  • Experience supervising Nurse Practitioners or other advanced practice providers preferred.
  • Experience in a residential or outpatient behavioral health setting is a plus.

Skills:
  • Strong clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills across co-occurring SUD and MH presentations.
  • Ability to lead a multidisciplinary treatment team effectively.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration with clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Comfortable working within a supervisory structure alongside advanced practice providers.
