Position Overview
Shell Bay is seeking an experienced and accomplished Director of Finance to lead the Club's finance, accounting, and information technology functions.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a finance professional with a successful record of leadership and financial operations management within private clubs, nonprofit organizations, luxury hospitality, or other high-end service environments.
The Director of Finance will serve as a strategic thought partner to the developer, ownership group, and executive management team. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining the financial controls, administrative procedures, reporting systems, and internal processes necessary to support the Club's continued growth, financial strength, and operating efficiency.
The successful candidate will report directly to the developer and ownership group, attend scheduled financial and operational meetings, and work closely with the Club's executive leadership and department managers.
The Director of Finance will be expected to perform the position's responsibilities with a respectful, constructive, collaborative, and energetic leadership style consistent with Shell Bay's principles and organizational objectives.
Primary Responsibilities
The Director of Finance will be responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Club's financial, accounting, administrative, and information technology operations, including:
  • Ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial reporting
  • Preparing and presenting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Leading the annual budgeting process in collaboration with ownership, executive leadership, and department managers
  • Monitoring departmental performance against approved budgets
  • Preparing cash-flow projections, forecasts, and financial analyses
  • Developing meaningful dashboards, key performance indicators, and management reports
  • Providing ownership and executive leadership with timely financial insights and strategic recommendations
  • Establishing and maintaining effective internal controls, policies, and financial procedures
  • Safeguarding the Club's assets and ensuring appropriate financial accountability throughout the organization
  • Managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, purchasing controls, and cash-management functions
  • Overseeing payroll administration and related reporting
  • Coordinating the annual independent third-party audit
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable tax, regulatory, and financial-reporting requirements
  • Managing insurance programs, claims, renewals, and organizational risk
  • Supporting the financial administration and oversight of construction, capital improvement, and renovation projects
  • Maintaining accurate capital-project budgets and reporting
  • Overseeing the Club's financial and accounting software systems
  • Providing leadership and oversight for the Club's information technology function
  • Identifying opportunities to improve systems, automation, efficiency, and data accuracy
  • Serving as the administrative and financial liaison to all departments and department managers
  • Recruiting, developing, mentoring, and leading finance, accounting, and IT team members
  • Establishing clear expectations and ensuring accountability within areas of responsibility
  • Supporting ownership and executive leadership with special projects and additional financial analyses as requested

Professional Experience
Candidates should possess:
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience
  • A minimum of three years of experience at the Controller, Director of Finance, or comparable senior financial-management level
  • Experience within a private club, luxury hospitality organization, nonprofit organization, or similarly complex service environment
  • A strong understanding of nonprofit accounting and private club financial operations
  • Experience working with 501(c)(7) tax-exempt organizations
  • Experience with construction, renovation, and capital-improvement projects
  • Proficiency with ClubSoft or comparable club finance and accounting software
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, internal controls, payroll, audit, insurance, risk management, and tax compliance
  • Demonstrated success leading and developing finance and accounting professionals
  • Strong oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining appropriate financial discipline and accountability

Education and Professional Credentials
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a concentration in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE) designation required
  • CMAA or HFTP involvement is strongly preferred
  • Interest in continued professional development within the private club industry is highly valued
