Job description

We are seeking a Quality Control Supervisor! The Quality Control Supervisor leads the quality control team to ensure the highest standards for all Katzman inventory. You will manage daily inspection workflows, oversee inventory condition coding accuracy, and supervise team training. Key responsibilities include acting as the primary liaison for USDA inspections, optimizing inventory life cycles with buyers and sales, and driving proactive quality improvements across the warehouse.
Responsibilities/Duties
Team Leadership & Operations
  • Direct daily quality control staff workflows, shift hand-offs, and inspection priorities to maintain operational continuity.
  • Train, mentor, and cross-train current and new QC team members on commodity-specific knowledge and coding accuracy.
  • Exercise full authority to confidently reject substandard inbound shipments and rapidly document issues to support grower-shipper claims.
  • Audit daily reports from previous shifts to verify code entry accuracy and conduct spot-checks on high-risk inventory.

Compliance & Inspection Management
  • Manage and coordinate all official USDA inspections and communicate sensitive customer acknowledgements (e.g., Blue Apron, National accounts) to operations.
  • Ensure all facility logs, records, and inspection results comply with local and federal food safety laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the proper calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment used by the team.

Inventory & Quality Strategy
  • Partner with Buyers, Sales, and Warehouse Teams to evaluate aging inventory, manage warehouse quality issues, and determine when a defective lot can be salvaged through sorting/re-packing versus when it must be dumped.
  • Serve as the technical expert and final authority for second opinions on complex commodity condition coding.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in quality control by collaborating with Managers, Supervisors, and Warehousemen.

Safety & Facility Standards
  • Enforce strict safety protocols, ensuring a clean work environment and immediate corrective action for unsafe behaviors or equipment operation.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Proven Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and hold a team accountable.
  • Advanced Commodity Expertise: Deep, technical knowledge of produce grading and aging.
  • Cross-Departmental Communication: Strong negotiation and communication skills to bridge buyers, sales, and warehouse teams.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with USDA guidelines and food safety compliance.

Environment: This is an open environment warehouse position. Must be able to work in various temperatures.
Shift: Day
Pay: $66,000 - $73,000 per year.
